What would actually be a legitimately good feature is a sensor in the car that detects if there is someone left in the car while it's off and the temperature inside becomes too hot, then the AC automatically turns on.

Plenty of people get into this mode where they're rushing too much and start forgetting things. Some people are also just forgetful in general, especially with things like ADHD. It's a good reminder that has the potential to save kids, so I'm all for it. It's not about the added costs. The only reason car manufacturers don't install these kinds of fail-safes is they don't want the liability.

Well yes, it is. Obviously the severity of the situation is different, but it's similar to when someone complains about some game breaking glitch in a game and you responding, "it must be your fault because I've never had that glitch". Just because it never happened to you does not mean it wouldn't happen to someone else in other situations. At my old job I worked with adults with disabilities. A similar company in NYC had a client left in the van who died, so the state required post trip inspections (including signatures) to ensure no one was left in a vehicle each trip.
