They really seemed like Phase 4 of MCU would carry them, instead of being the obvious dud that is is. Their biggest "hits" this year were box office failures The Little Mermaid and Indiana Jones. Oh no, Disney had a bad year or so at the box office... they're Nintendooooomed!!!
Yeah, no... I am not a Disney fan. I probably consume less of their output than 90% of this board... but whether you think it's because they went "woke" or that people got tired of them saturating the market with mediocre product: Disney will be fine financially. Like it or not. I remember when I was a little kid, it was in that period of the 80s before the Disney Renaissance and Disney were struggling to adapt for years since the 70s with a series of not so memorable and cheaper looking animated and live action content. They were in much worse shape then. Today they own so many properties and have so much clout and name recognition and marketability it's staggering. --- Moderated for telling people not to commit illegal acts of assault and murder.09/2/23 Also moderated for not responding to obvious bait. - 10/03/23 ... Fantasia flopped but made up for it many years later. I personally loved John Carter and wished that it had been more successful, same with Treasure Planet (not a bad video game either). Overall it gives them more control over the industry. It might have initially, but not anymore. I'm not even sure what they're commanding. Disney+ lost something like $6 billion in 2022. Netflix made $6 billion. That's a $12 billion difference. Netflix has a huge market share in all of the world's media nowadays. Disney is basically known for 4 things now outside their parks, all 4 of which are on the way down. They've announced like a dozen Star Wars in the past couple of years, but none have taken off. The general audience is basically done with the MCU. Live action remakes are like 1 decent one out of every 6. And people just wait to watch any animated films on Disney+, which means it doesn't make any money on the platform. It's not just Disney. They're just losing the most. Paramount+, Peacock and even Max are also not doing that great and have lost billions. They all sprang up to compete with Netflix and Netflix still kicked all their asses. They were so confident that they got rid of password sharing and did even better. Essentially, Disney did almost no damage to their biggest competitor. --- Nani?!? ... Copied to Clipboard!

I'm saying that destroying Netflix was very far from their "only purpose." It provides an absolute shitload of advertising for Disney. The returns on that advertising might currently be failing to make up for the costs (even that's debatable as movie viewership is falling for other reasons too), at the end of the day Disney is talked about more. Their IPs are talked about more, and better recognized. That will help them in the long run

People are not talking about it positively. The billions and billions they've lost is not debatable. They entered the market to compete with Netflix. Their shows were doing fine when they were on Netflix, and they wanted the whole cut and fucked everything up. Stop making lame excuses that this helped them somehow.
