Kind of pissed that D'Backs got to the WS before Paul Goldschmidt could since leaving.

Ill be honestly content with either one winning so I just hope they are good games and its a long series but I think Texas finally wins one.

Idc who wins, just go 4 or 7 games.

Im rooting for the rangers even though im from Houston. Curious if the tickets are still just as cheap in Arizona as they were for NLCS

Rangers have never won it all before, so it'd be nice to see that happen.

the dbacks have a lower payroll than the mariners or rangers dont they

a team with a tiny payroll that sneaks in making the ws is just so embarrassing and bad for baseball. owners are gonna stop spending money if they see this random luck bullshit too much. why pay so much money for a $200m team if they have just as good a shot in the playoffs as a $70m team

Blame John Mozeliak for being a garbage-ass GM who went cheap on pitching while also being terrible at judging hitters because he traded away great talents like Randy Arozarena and (ALCS MVP) Adolis Garcia while choosing to keep bums like Tyler O'Neill and Paul DeJong. This stupid idiot is wasting the prime years of Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado on mediocre teams that are nowhere near title contenders.

to be fair matthew liberatore was a top 10 SP prospect for awhile and adolis garcia was terrible in the minors as a 26 or 27 year old

Diamondbacks all the way, but hopeful it gets to 6 or 7 games.

Not my first choice, but Im very excited for this one. Rangers have never won it, so I lean that way, I think.

Diamondbacks have a cool squad, though, and Ill always remember their championship run. It was incredible to watch.

It's not luck, and this isn't usual. Low payroll teams have a shot every few years by building up their systems. The Dodgers losing isn't tragic, especially because them choking in October is consistent.

Also, tbh, the '06 Cards weren't that bad.

It was literally the team after the '04 and '05 Cards, both 100+ win teams. It had Pujols, Molina, Wainwright, etc.

No, it shows that just because an owner spends $100+ million on a team doesnt guarantee a championship. Its part luck, part getting players that work well together.

Exactly. If you could go into the season, look at the teams' payrolls, and immediately know that any team with a payroll in the bottom half/third of the league stood zero chance of winning the championship no matter what, that would be no fun at all. A well-run small-market team with a low payroll being a championship contender is always a good thing, and the ones that suck constantly are either not being run well or not trying to win.

do you think it was luck when the a's had like a 9 game win streak this season including a sweep of the braves or was that them building up talent lol. do you know how small sample sizes work in baseball

who said it guarantees a championship? we should just be encouraging owners to spend money. very simple. how is an owner incentivized to spend if a bottom ten payroll team with 84 wins and a negative run differential won a pennant? jerry dipoto even said his goal, as explained to the mariners owner, is only to win 54% of games (88 wins). 88 teams shouldn't even get you into the playoffs. and why is a team with low payroll that refuses to pay the fucking players a good thing??? you some kinda bootlicker or something? the hell is wrong with you?

I have no qualms if the Diamondbacks take it though.

Absolutely nobody thought that either team would be here and that's enough to intrigue me on its own.

it's time like these that logic is thrown out the window. rangers is obviously the better team overall, especially in terms of power. but i feel like, in a WS, that's entire moot. i feel like the scrappy underdogs always just have some strange advantage in this scenario.

realistically, the rangers should just blast them out of the series. but we'll see, who knows.

i don't have a favorite team. i just hate cheap skate owners and don't think we should encourage teams to not spend to win. not sure how you got brainwashed into thinking not spending is good for your team or baseball in general. but i find that very sad. please reconsider your stance.

as far as dbacks vs cardinals they had the same record basically (cards with 1 less game)

dbacks 84-78
dbacks had a 97 wrc+ which ranked 18th
dbacks had an era- of 102 which ranked 20th
dbacks had a fip- of 103 which ranked 22nd

cardinals 83-78
cards had a 98 wrc+ which ranked 13th
cards had an era- of 104 which ranked 24th
cards had a fip- of 108 which ranked 27th

cardinals way worse at pitching and a hair better at hitting. hmm. think i might go with cardinals being worse.

For anyone lamenting the mediocre Diamondbacks making the World Series, all you can really do is just stop putting as much value in the postseason as you do. The Diamondbacks could win the World Series and it still wouldn't change the fact that the Braves were by far the best team in the sport this year.

Anyway, I think the Rangers will win and I hope they do. Always more interesting to see a franchise win a championship when they haven't before. Especially when it's one as old as the Rangers.

i think that arozarena trade still speaks to differences in talent evaluation. the rays know how valuable good cheap players are than anyone, why trade what was seen by the industry at the time as a future top of the rotation starter for a fringe outfielder? as it turns out, the Rays did not like the shape of Liberatore's fastball and how it would play in the majors, so they sold on him before other teams found out.
