They can literally blow up a planet by doing nothing at this point. It would be realistic for them to throw a punch and break reality (Goku vs Beerus and Gogeta vs Broly). Except Toriyama himself stated that if every Ki blast blew up the planet they were standing on, there wouldn't be much of a story to tell lol

Also its been implied multiple times that they fight at super speed, but we see it in super slow-mo. Frieza vs Goku fight happened in a short amount of time but for us it was whole episodes. The Cell vs Goku fight, we could watch normally but it was shown on TV in the audience perspectives as blurs (not even that).

Then the Tournament of Power Arc took place in a short amount of time, but it felt much longer because of how fast they were all fighting.

It's this stupid Silver Chariot shit and that official statement that Star Platinum is faster than light. It's very clearly not what's happening there.

Dyspo is the 1st confirmed lightspeed character and frieza n co had somewhat of a difficult time with him. They didn't even beat dyspo with pure speed but with better teamwork and predictions.

But whatever. At least deathbattle consistently scales up every character's speed by like a million+ times so its not a big deal

That's basically my point: he doesn't ever portray them going faster than light as a function of the narrative, it's only because the genre as a whole flagrantly just doesn't give a crap in the slightest about the ramifications about the actions of the characters in question. Hence why they can move quadrillions of times faster than the speed of light: the author just doesn't give a crap. This can be best exemplified by Trigunl in its two iterations. In the original when Vash first shows off his ability to move faster than/react to a bullet the characters freak out and rationalize it as "Oh, he's just reacting to the direction of the gun + their finger" (which would be pretty categorically shown as false as the show goes on). In the reboot he does the same thing but the characters no longer care beyond doing the line as it is practically unheard of for a modern anime character to not be able to react to a bullet regardless of who they are (the exception, of course, being if they are a jobber).

the main thing that has me doubt their speed is that the cast are planet bound for the most part and fight in small areas. I will believe them to be massively faster than light if they ever fight in space and zip across multiple galaxies during their battles. that actually happens in some fiction.

Also, it's easy to take for granted just how fast the characters are moving in the series because we watch it from the perspective of the fighters themselves.

5 minutes into the video of Goku vs Cell we get glimpses of how normies perceive the characters while they're fighting.

And this isn't exactly something that barely started happening all the way back into the Cell saga. They've been moving that quick pretty much since the beginning of the series.
