If you get news from several sources, the bias of any given one of them doesn't really matter. It's the "I only trust this one!" fools who are the suckers.

That said, the best source for US news is the BBC, somehow.

No. My 'distrust' of CNN used to be kind of a halfhearted joke, but it's really sinking in lately just how sketchy they've gotten. I think the Trump town hall and everything associated with it - the crowd paid to cheer, Anderson Cooper chastising his audience - was the final nail in the coffin. It's become more and more apparent just how much CNN and the like benefit from always keeping political polling at 50.1% / 49.9%, and their approach to reporting falls right in line with this.

News and opinion have been dangerously intermingled hard for the past couple decades. Foxnews based its entire model on that, and I don't think Newsmax even bothers with the "news" part.

Back in the newspaper era, "I'm some guy spouting off abot some damn thing" was obvious to pick out. There'd be a crude badly-printed photo at the top, and maybe even "Opinion" printed right above that.

No. Some weeks ago during their primetime news I literally saw them use a chyron talking about Trump's raping of E Jean Carrol as "allegedly raping her in the 90s", even though the judge literally clarified that sexual assault is rape after the Trump camp and right-wing media kept going "He wasn't found guilty of rape!"

I was already not a fan of theirs for years, but shit like that just gives me reason to never give them credence for being valid media.

Fuck them and their desire to apologize for and normalize right-wing Christo-fascists even if it's just to try corralling the Faux News viewers, which they're still failing at since their town hall with Trump only made them lose Dem/Ind viewers without really gaining any right-wing ones.

CNN caters to right-wing narratives and sympathies. Especially after Zaslav took over Warner Entertainment or whatever and the guy who came up with the Trump town Hall, Christ Lecht, expressly said he wanted to appeal to more right-wing viewers.

This "left-wing mainstream media" nonsense comes from Lee Atwater propaganda that has stuck around for decades.

I've never even seen CNN be pro left-wing messaging, at best they give a factual assessment of an event, which if that's being "left-wing" then that's really just an issue with right-wing media being intentionally dishonest propaganda.

Please don't buy into right-wing narration that CNN is "left-wing or liberal Media", because they're not.

At the end of the day they're all (the mainstream big names) corporate media and no corporation has any real financial incentive to support any party or narration other than the Republican one.

They report factually on most general issues, where someone like Fox can't even report on a hurricane with a far-right political slant.

CNN's political coverage is pretty dogshit though... always prioritizing neoliberal and capitalist interests, while at the same time trying to chase an ever more conservative leaning older audience that still pay for cable.

So you are mad that a channel that covers American news was talking about the front runner of one of the major parties during an election cycle? Sorry but this is just a dumb complaint. Of course they would talk about Trump.

There are plenty of things to hate CNN over but this isn't one of them. Everyone was talking about Trump, first as a joke and later as the Republican front runner.

It's a question of "Compared to what?" because it seems to me the alternatives tends to be shit like OANN, Breitbart, Project Veritas (RIP), Zero Hedge, etc. In that case, yes I trust it over the 'alternatives'.

Also it's a question of news reporting versus opinion pieces. The "Paw Patrol is fascist" shit is in the latter but tends to get used against CNN reporting on stuff like the Hawaii wildfires and that recent emergency broadcast test. It's like "LOL, you think they're telling the truth about the wildfires after what they said about Paw Patrol? You'll believe anything!".

So I think overall, in this day and age, I say yes. I do trust CNN. Because what else am I supposed to trust?

No, our media not only normalized Trump they gave him far more coverage than they gave Clinton.

The President of NBC was caught on audio saying "Trump may be bad for the country, but he's great for ratings". There is some other media exec who has talked about how Trump was great for their ratings, though I don't remember the network.

They cover Trump so heavily because he gives them ratings and as they're showing yet again they've learned 0 lessons when it comes to addressing him, who he is, his constant lies, and the threat he is to the entire nation.

Just the other day they covered on live air this buffoon's motorcade going in to court and then covered him when he predictably came out and spewed the same lies we're all used to.

There's a way of covering Trump responsibly and it is most definitely not what our media does.

They would gladly help usher this nation into a Christo-fascist dictatorship while striving for great ratings along the way.

Pre-Nazi Germany media did the same. They covered what Hitler did and said in a way that gave him the media narrative domination and not so surprisingly led to his victory. That's what they did with Trump and Clinton in 2016. That's what they do in pretty much any given topic as they normalize Republican fascism and oppression as normal and "just the other political party". They're a big reason why non-politically engaged people have come to disdain "cancel culture" and "woke" with the exact same talking points we see coming from the right-wingers who coined it.

CNN is fine to learn when a plane crashes or when there is a mass shooting and all the normal newsworthy events like that.

On politics it really is tough to say. You have to sort of gain an understanding of the systems and players so you can make sense of the information presented.

For example: The mainstream news seldom reminds us that these debt ceiling government shut-downs are a completely manufactured piece of obstructionist theater that republicans use to get what they want beyond the legislative process. Raising the debt cieling has been a routine book-keeping function of congress forever, but republicans figured out they can play into their media "government is bad!" narratives to hold the function of economy hostage and get democrats to compromise. It's just a resolution to pay for what you already spent... it's like trying to re-negotiate a contract mid payment. Knowing this, you can understand what's really happening.

I would recommend some more left leaning news shows like David Pakman, but you will get some opinion even there... although Pakman is very careful to differentiate what is verified fact and what is speculation or opinion.

Still on issues of politics itself, You have to sort of gain an understanding of the systems and players so you can make sense of the information.
