I'm not religious myself, but I grew up in a somewhat spiritual household. Although I don't consider talking about religion "taboo" myself, when I hear other people talk about it still has somewhat of a forbidden, controversial-kinda "shock value" to it. Not that I'm bothered, I find it amusing actually, although I avoid talking about religion if I can if I want to avoid conflict.

My question for you, does anyone kinda feel the same way? It's hard to describe.

Depends a lot on the context. I enjoy an analytical or philosophical conversation about religion. If someone is just talking about their own faith I don't really mind, but it does get annoying after a while. What I can't tolerate is people getting preachy. I'm all for people believing whatever the hell they want, just don't try selling me on your bullshit. There's way too many people eager to force their views on you these days. Religious or otherwise.

I'm mostly shocked at how people still bother with it tbh. Between the corrupt megachurches and the small minority of "believers" who have actually studied and/or actively practice their religion tainting the entire experience, I don't understand why anyone would want to be a part of it.

I'm an atheist who used to be married to a practising Christian -- the daughter of a Baptist minister. I tagged along to her fellowship group meetings and Bible study groups. I can tell you it feels a little strange and embarrassing when every meeting you attend starts with a prayer for your soul because you're a non-believer. They were nice enough people, but I could never understand how they managed the intellectual somersaults and contortions necessary to submerge themselves in blind faith in tribal myths and superstitions from the Bronze Age Near East.

These polyamorous relationships where there's four of you trying to make it work -- there's you, there's him, there's the dad, there's the holy spirit -- they're just too complicated.

Talking about it is cool, similar to politics. it's when people get forceful and highly opinionated that things go awry.
I ask my coworkers questions about religion a lot. I'm genuinely curious without having the belief system. I respect diversity.

It is a bit weird for me since my neither of my parents were religious in the slightest. But everyone I have interacted with who is "religious" treats religion more as a social gathering than something that impacts your day to day life. In other words, it isn't really mentioned all that much.
