I know this might be hard for you guys to believe, but this is what I'm saying. She is so overhyped that people think it's impossible to have never heard one of her songs. But I have not.

Why would you be so confident that you have never heard a song by one of the biggest pop stars to exist in your lifetime played in a store you were in, during a movie or tv show youve seen, from somebodys car radio, etc?

You need to calm down. It must have been a cruel summer to not hear any Taylor Swift songs at all! The man is fearless to be able to speak up like this, so he's a better man than you and he has a perfectly good heart. Don't blame me for saying all of this though. I know the kind of pain he's in all too well.

Hard to compare. The way we listen to music now is so different. MJ obviously ain't gonna put up the same streaming numbers as TSwizzle.

But also due to streaming in part, MJ was everywhere for everyone. Nowadays anyone can kinda just ignore stuff they don't wanna listen to and only stream their own favs. Probably harder to avoid MJ back in the day that it is to avoid TSwift today.

Its really not that hard to miss popular music. One can easily be not conscious or aware of those background songs in stores and on the road unless the person recognizes the song. I also dont believe Ive heard Taylor Swift in any of those settings with one exception. The one exception was a froyo place I worked at, and I thumbed down Swifts music when it came up so the Pandora channels stopped playing her music.

I do not listen to radio. Haven't in years.

It's very difficult to make an absolutely fair comparison, but in the context of their times, they are both at the top.

Every generation will put their idols above the current ones. In years to come, people will be saying, 'ah, Taylor Swift, now that was real music, not like your shitty over produced Gen Beta crap. I can't even name one of their songs!'

That's always been the case. But the top hits, the stuff that dominates the Top 40, is not. Hence this topic and my point. Just like Swift becomes a cultural norm and dominates the charts and attention for a reason.

That's hardly true. Plenty of songs, especially in each era's version of the "pop" genre, have had ghost writers and been written by committee for decades.
