I have a Mega account but I was never able to back everything up. Everything important is on there but I don't know if I have the keys saved.

Even if your computer is dead you can still use the same hard drive and keep your data.

Does it do anything when you press the power button?

No. But the fan button on the back works if I press it. I assume the graphics card finally died.

You can test that by plugging the HDMI into the motherboard (and maybe taking out the card to be sure)

Because you don't know how to plug an HDMI cord into a different HDMI port, or because there isn't another one to try plugging it into?

It's extremely unlikely that you'll cause meaningful damage by plugging the cord into a different hole.

I don't trust myself.

On a different note I'll have to get a prebuilt as a replacement unfortunately. I don't want to get something like an Alienware since they're overpriced but I would at least like to get a gaming computer.

Yeah TC to be clear, what I meant was taking the cable that goes from your computer to your monitor, unplugging it from the horizontal port, and plugging it into the vertical one. There should be multiple HDMI ports on the back.

But no offense I doubt you diagnosed it correctly if you didn't know how to do that.

Looks like there's only one monitor port on this model. It has to screw in.

Yeah, moving the HDMI cord is about as simple as tech gets. It's nothing more complicated than plugging in a new mouse would be (in many ways, it's actually simpler because you can see the shape of the port and plug better than you can with USB and that reduces the chance of having to flip it).

If there aren't multiple HDMI ports, you don't actually have a dedicated graphics card and therefore that's not your problem.

It's pretty uncommon for a computer to only have one display output, even if there's no dedicated GPU. If the cable screws in, you're looking at either VGA or DVI, and neither have anything that you're likely to damage unless you're inexplicably violent with them (the screws just stabilize the plug, they aren't anything functional themselves). Do you see any of these ports back there?

It should also have an HDMI port on the motherboard.

If you have a friend that can help you I'd message them. They would have to take it apart piece by piece to find the broken part.

Unless it's really old, but given that my 12-year-old, mid-tier motherboard has HDMI, DVI, and VGA on it, I'd be surprised if this one doesn't.

Just HDMI but the monitor doesn't plug there everything else is just regular ports like USB. There's another port that could screw something in but the monitor cable doesn't fit there.

Nah I have nobody that could do that. If it's the motherboard the fans would t work either right?

Not necessarily.

The port you're currently using is DVI-D or DVI-I (if you're using VGA your computer is old and it's time to upgrade anyway). Find an HDMI cable somewhere around your house and use that instead. Your monitor will be able to use it unless it's really old.

This is about the only way you can try to find out what's wrong with it without taking pieces out.

It's the same age as the computer but looks like it does have a port on the back. It will suck if it's the motherboard since I didn't back up some bookmarks.

At the very least learn how to take out your hard drive/SSD so you can put it into your new computer. You might think you can't, but anyone can do it.

You will keep all your data and windows will run exactly how it did before.

Try hooking up the monitor to something else with the appropriate output. If the issue is that the computer turns on but you don't get an image, the monitor may be dead, so you should rule that out. Otherwise, if you don't have a graphics card (it doesn't sound like you do), it sounds like the onboard graphics have failed, and those are built into the CPU and not something you can really fix. Your data, however, should be fine, but you'll need to pull your hard drive out to recover it (which can sometimes be tricky in a prebuilt, but isn't too difficult).

The computer doesn't turn on at all. The monitor still works too.

Don't be afraid to stick things in different holes if they fit. If it was gonna make things worse, they'd change the size of the hole so you physically couldn't stick it in, especially stuff like display cables. Unlike charging cables on phones, there's a reason all the cables in your PC are varying sizes.
