Yeah, I just want the punishment to fit what they done wrong. Though I will say my tune will change if they were college students or, god forbid, middle age adults doing this shit. Teens are fucking stupid, but this can be used as a learning experience. If this is a recurring trend, then expulsion is 100% justified.

I think it's weird that some of you are treating expulsion like a death sentence.

Also keep in mind the whole "make pokemon cards" thing appears to have been entirely made up. There's no evidence any such thing happened.

I mean it's not the worst thing a teenager can face, like you said death is, but a suspension can have every lasting affects on a teenagers life.

Suspensions are glorified vacations for students that do shit like this.

Expecting parents to correct and/or punish behavior that is likely normalized at home seems like a bad strategy for ensuring other students' safety.

You do know in school suspensions exist. Not to mention the school board is planning to talk directly to the parents on this.

Suspensions aren't just you stop showing up for classes for a week and nothing else.

Other than my mom being mad at me, I liked being suspended. A mere that's it, you're not allowed to come to school for a few days! isn't going to cut it for most kids, I'd guess.

People are too soft towards these boys. Teens are old enough to know better, they just have trouble understanding long term consequences.

Let this shit burn them so that they never forget it. A slap on the wrist is just giving them permission to do it again.

Don't see how this would help, as apparently none of the pictures were taken on school grounds. How does banning phones at school prevent a girl's butt being photographed (to pick one possible scenario) while in line at Starbucks?

Didn't see or skimmed over the pics taken weren't on school grounds.

Not sure then, how do they even take action on anything then if it didn't happen on school grounds?

I can't remember the circumstances surrounding my suspensions, but I definitely was at least two or three times.

That is wild. Worst thing that ever happened in my school was taking the phone away for the day, a write up or absolute worst, forcing your parents to come pick it up.

ISS vs OSS. OSS is fucking useless yet my school used it a lot. Generally for fighting but ISS is much worse generally and should be the standard if a student does something really bad.

I went to school before cell phones.

You know what, let's take off the kids gloves then. Expel these kids. Plaster their pictures on the internet and include their names. Give them a permanent record so that every new school they enroll at knows why they were expelled. Force them to attend therapy. Prepare a prison sentence that they have to serve the moment they turn 18. Add them into the sex offender list. Place them on the no fly list.

Okay but there are no preventative actions to stop the behavior is what I am referring to. If they expell them it won't stop these actions from happening in the future. Maybe it makes it so they don't see them at school? But then they learn nothing from this other than try not to get caught when they go to another school.

Seems like law enforcement is the only real route for preventative measures, and the place they shared it at should ban them online from using the service. They should maybe not be allowed to use any internet access for a time from any device.

Title IX. Most people don't seem to realize that it's not just limited to higher education. So long as both are students at the same school, the school has to take action or risk all forms of federal funding.

Another point often overlooked is that under Title IX, it doesn't have to be the victims who bring charges. The (as far as we know) uninvolved classmate who wrote the petition would be sufficient to get the kids suspended or expelled, even if the victims all unanimously came forward and said they were willing participants.

Note: I don't think that's likely in the slightest, it's included as an extreme possibility.

Well removing them doesn't change the victims still weathering the fall out at school the perps just won't be there for it. They are sent to another school eventually where they don't have to deal with the people who know what they did.

If these were nude maybe more would be done but they knew not to go that far.

Well then the sharing site has no rules against it, the law has none, and the school can't take any meaningful actions other than waiting until they get caught again in the future. Once they go to college I don't see the behavior changing it would only get worse. Even with expulsion.

A kid caught hitting/bullying another kid outside of school is a school issue.

This is also a school issue.

New Hampshire State law requires districts to operate alternative school programs or to provide educational services to expelled students in an alternative setting.

Wonder what this literally means.....
