Half of the first page is political topics so good job.

Nothing is different except for the overall quality of the discussion being reduced to the elementary school level. Most people angered either because of, or against, the changes.

I feel much more confident in Fandoms vision for this place.

I wonder if they feared a repeat of jan 6th after the 2024 election, and they wanted to shut it down before anything could happen that might get them in legal trouble

At least 261 didn't have those "10 million dollars, but..." and "she says 'hey, ugky" topics.

Basic doesnt even begin to describe political discussion on CE.

People spend 95% of the time disagreeing on basic information needed to even have the discussion at hand. And not because theres a difference of opinion; because people dont have a clue how anything works.

But the discussion was definitely nastier on CE.

Its really quite sad.

This is a big issue in politics period. Not just online discussion.
But that's what happens when one side has mainstream media legitimizing their lies and misinformation for decades.

This board used to be pretty progressive but it became more centrist when 261 closed. Pretty dumb move imho

Absolutely not. In fact, most of 261 by the end was pretty left with a few annoying centrists, and yes, those centrists came over, but if anything I feel that centrists and the right are more cowed these days. It's almost too quiet over here.

That has nothing to do with anything and isnt even something that was argued. I could just as easily claim that CE was improved because closing 261 generated many more political discussions here.

"Thought crimes" is literally stuff from a fictional book, and thus not real, and also an unquantifiable value judgment that is not backed up with any reasoning.

I re-submit the notion that imprisoning white supremacists is an actual (not fictional) good idea that should be done, is an essential part of making the world better, and also cool to do.

Killing 261 simply made CE into a dumber 261. The drive to create intellectual topics is gone.

261 could've been better. Could've been worse. But what it was wasn't great and no one wanted to change. They have nonone to thank for the outcome but themselves.

This is pretty much the worse (not worst) case scenario. 261 had some political news content that I needed to follow several different sites to keep track of.

Discussion is pretty much dead here with the exception of drive-by comments.

Most system boards banned politics topics even with the community tab. Wish the site as a whole would ban it as there's nothing but ragebait and circle jerk topics.

If I can be honest, as someone who was on both up to the closure, I've actually felt CE has chilled a bit since.

CE does have those topics by that vegetable user. I definitely don't click on those

I'll admit I'm an angry, sarcastic, dummy who can't go into a long, well informed, well written political debate, but I do miss reading debates by people smarter and more eloquent than me.

Still don't get the complaints strictly about political topics in general here when there were plenty of them before 261's closure.
