I don't get Pokphilia.

There's nothing unethical about it. Pokmon have human intelligence. But even as a far end furry who likes the kinds of anthropomorphic characters that one would find in something like My Little Pony or The Lion King, they just look like basic animals/monsters drawn in a cutesy style.

I fully understand a humanoid gardevoir or an off-model lopunny which makes her more of a furry character. But that's an exception rather than a rule. My only guess as to why it's so popular is because people reach puberty while playing Pokmon and want to apply their new feelings to a franchise that they are already enthusiastic about.

I used to fantasize about Leaf when I was a teenager.

It also feels weird still playing a kid when you're a grown adult who wants to their avatar to be beautiful since I'm quite ugly in real life.

Yeah, but there's usually some underling theme that's easy to grasp. Dominance, submission, humiliation, etc. I don't "get" cuckolding, but I understand that people who are into it like being humiliated and put out by better competition. What's the underscore of Pokphilia? Animal passions? Cuteness? Pleasure mixed with whimsy?

There are certain kinks that I would never ask about. Anytime you ask, "What's the appeal?", there's a possibility that it could click for you and open up a new door. I don't want from a lot of kinks. If I woke up tomorrow thinking that Jigglypuff is one of the hottest girls in gaming, I could probably live with that. I just have to know what it is that others see that I can't see.

A lot of the designs are just really appealing for the same reasons other furry stuff is appealing. I don't give a shit about Pokemon in general, but I absolutely love how Decidueye, Talonflame, Corviknight, Noivern, etc. look when artists draw them.

What I do absolutely hate is the creepy-as-fuck thing in the porn where every Pokemon calls the person they're banging "master" as if they're a will-less sex slave. I don't care if you make a character use a feral body as long as they're a fully sapient and equal being, but if you add in the whole Pokemon "trainer = master" thing, it doesn't matter how humanoid or animalistic they are, it's just creepy to me.

It's very weird. It's a kids show. Not only they're sexualizing the trainers, but the pokemon too? What the heck.

Back in the Red/Blue days when I was a teenager who already knew he had furry tendencies I tried very hard to convince myself that I didn't find Charizard sexy and couldn't sexualize Pokmon in general. But after a couple years I finally gave up on that.

People are attracted to Pokmon for the same reason they're furries.

Are you really so absolutely mind-numbingly stupid that you think Pokemon is a kid's show and not a video game property that sells 25+ million copies each generation and has hundreds of successful people in their late 20s and 30s making content from it?

Anyone who played Pokemon Red when it released is now a minimum of about 30 years old btw (assuming we say you had to be 5 or so to play it, which is arguably still too young).

I also see literally zero appeal in anime children, but you could probably just make a mathematical argument that there's enough people that interact with it, and interest comes proportionally. I imagine the people who are into that stuff actually interact with the property directly much more often than in the case of the pokemon, where exposure is often just through furry sites.

On a fundamental level, individuals tend to be sexually dominant or sexually submissive. Roleplay involving a willing subordinate -- or voluntarily being under another individual's power -- is more universal than, say, a cute plush dinosaur being an object of desire. (Not that I'm in any position to judge.)

Bruh, the gym leaders are all grown ass adults more than half of the time. The villains? All adults. It doesn't say anything about them, because there's a ton of character designs that are really good.

That's the thing, the usage of master is correct. There is pokedex entry refers to the trainer as a "master":

The talking Lucario in the 8th movie also referred to it's trainer as it's master too.

Fundamentally the relationship between Pokemon and Trainer is that of a pet and owner which goes back to Tajiri's conception of Pokemon as being innocent and friends to humans like pets, or more specifically cats and dogs. This is something he put emphasis in his 2019 biography and something he talked about in the 90s in a book he wrote. GameFreak wrote the same in the 1990s Japan only Pokedex and a GameFreak employeewho wrote a book on game design mentioned how they started to conceptualize Pokemon Trainers as being more like pet owners.

In the games and anime Pokemon behave and are treated as pets, from the food they eat, they eat dog food off the floor in the anime, to their dog and cat like behaviors in the games, like chewing on grass, barking and having zoomies, to the activities the player has with them, like playing fetch. A big part of the issue comes from this, Pokemon are conceptualized as being pet-like animal-like creatures, which has been admitted by the people who run and worked on the series, so it's natural that in those scenarios you describe those types of terms are used because they're apt based off the series. The problem comes with trying to use them in sexual context which comes off as creepy and manipulative.

Not really. Most of the characters you run into the game are actually adults. That doesn't even begin to touch the tip of the iceberg for the actual manga as well. The only time that people are generally de-aged or children constantly is in the anime itself.
