I thought the pandemic was over. I never see any news about covid just like a small blurb. The pandemic is over move on with your lives. And I am not just saying it is over the President himself said it and as far as I am concerned that is all I need to hear.

I didn't say you were the only one saying it was a problem. The numbers don't lie. Covid is still here. You're preaching to the choir my friend. I lost both of my parents 22 days apart to Covid during it's height, so you don't have to preach to me that is still a "problem".

Everyone should be masked up in public. Full stop.

That's the thing. You're suggesting solutions that would be near impossible to implement. All you can do is set guidelines and hope as many people as possible adhere to them.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I said at the beginning of the pandemic that I wasn't going to let peer pressure dictate whether or not I masked up, and for about three years I held firm to that; For all but the first month of the pandemic I was the only person in my office who masked up, to the point where most of my coworkers didn't know what the lower half of my face looked like. I stopped wearing the mask at work about two weeks after I got the bivalent booster last year; coincidentally that was the same day that Hurricane Ian hit, so we were without power for a week in Floridian late summer weather. I couldn't hack wearing one of those while doing physical labor with no AC in Florida, and after that ordeal was over I decided that I was as protected as I could get, so I finally said fuck it and dropped my guard at work at least.

Anyway, as to the whole 'peer pressure' thing, while I haven't faltered on masking up in public outside of work, I have to admit that a few months ago it was really starting to feel uncomfortable being the only person wearing a mask while shopping. I'm lucky in that I've gone the whole pandemic without my mask making me a target for a redneck with a bone to pick, and it really started to sink in that my luck is running out on that front. The current wave reinforced my motivation to stay masked up in public, but after I get the next shot and once this wave dies down, I might end up dropping it in public as well. You can only fight a losing battle for so long before it starts weighing too heavy on you.

You're absolutely, 100% right. It's one of the chief reasons I don't browbeat or even all that much blame individual people irl who choose not to mask up, even if their refusal does take another chip out of my faith in humanity (well, that and just being a generally non-confrontational person, not gonna lie). And failure to mandate masking / vaccinations remains one of the major failings of the Biden admin, imo.

I still wear my mask whenever I go into a crowded place (if I'm just quickly popping into the gas station to grab something and it doesn't look crowded I might leave it behind) and I have appointment for the latest booster scheduled for tomorrow.

Welp, my local Walgreens texted me earlier today and said they cancelled my appointment. I called them to see what happened, and they said "we ran out". On one hand, it sucks that I have to reschedule my appointment to Friday because that's when they said they would get more. But on the other hand, enough people getting vaccinated in my area that "they ran out" is good news... and honestly kind of surprising given the red state I live in.

I went on Monday to my local CVS and they said they were delaying giving out the new booster because there was a delay in billing and a lot of insurances aren't covering it yet.

Hopefully most people have a base immunity to covid now. I imagine the majority of the population have caught it at some point and have also been vaccinated. Its still dangerous and people should get their boosters and self isolate if ill but Id say that regardless of if its covid or anything thats highly infectious.

I haven't either, but I usually go to urgent care where they offer them for free.

I dunno why this is an argument at this point, this shit gives me a headache. Everyone has their lines drawn at this point, no one is changing them outside of personal tragedy if we're being honest. Yes, that sucks for literally everyone involved no matter how much we wish it didn't.

Personally, I still mask, but... I'm tired of that fight, and we're not going to change anyone's mind after the gov basically gave the "all clear" to not mask. All we can do is hope everyone stays as safe as they can.

haha, no

the only way that'll ever happen is if the CDC imposes more strict restrictions again which is very unlikely, since the corporations basically control everything at this point.

luckily I live in MA and from what I've heard the state health department has actually recommended doing covid tests for any new admissions(for nursing homes. I think hospitals have still always been doing them) and masks for anyone who may have been in contact with someone who had covid.

they'll probably put out mandatory regulations again within the next month or two depending on how many cases there are

It's not even really 1%. About a million of those deaths were before the Omicron variant took over. I remember reading updates in Humble Novice's COVID death counter thread he always had on 261.
