A lot (majority) of people can't be assed to do this anymore due to all the covid vaccine misinformation and disinformation. I'm not a parent, but hearing fathers and mothers say they won't get their booster shots when they got newborns in the house or on the way just drives me up a wall.

Despite the fact the updated booster vaccine is free even to those uninsured and under insured.

Exactly. That's what I'm seeing in my practice.

The covid numbers are going up however these diagnoses are made inadvertently because other separate illnesses brought them into the hospital. Of the patients who are admitted due to covid, none have required ICU level care and in fact are treated with the abbreviated 3-day course of remdesivir since they're on room air.

I want to get the booster but my insurance won't even cover it, damn it all.

I haven't stopped masking up, and get my boosters. Kinda crazy to since all outlooks point towards shit getting worse from here.

Yeah the deaths are a far, far cry from 3 years ago.

I really, really hate making this comparison since it was an inaccurate one during the outbreak, but covid really is comparable to the flu now.

I still wear my mask whenever I go into a crowded place (if I'm just quickly popping into the gas station to grab something and it doesn't look crowded I might leave it behind) and I have appointment for the latest booster scheduled for tomorrow.

i don't really go anywhere.

except that wearing a mask in the wrong part of the US makes some people angry enough to shoot you these days

anyway, I work in a nursing home in MA and they haven't reinstated mask policies even though we were one of, if not the last state to drop them. but the DPH does what it has to so it could happen any time. we still keep masks supplied and they did just issue a reminder that anyone showing possible symptoms should be sent home(which is standard in every healthcare facility anyway, but not any other job because money/productivity).

I expect the mask policy to be put back in place at some point, but with blanket testing no longer being required all those asymptomatic but possibly contagious cases aren't being detected. they haven't said the newest booster is required yet but I expect it will be by January.

I am, and still got it 2 weeks ago ending my streak.

I never stopped wearing the mask.
I keep telling people just because it seems inevitable you'll get it, doesn't mean you should become okay with chancing it with Long Covid.
Some people I know who were being smart about this a few years ago have fallen into this state of acceptance or apathy about Covid. I don't like that.

Alright got covid a month ago. Was a non-thing, even for my toddler and newborn

Only 20% of Americans got the latest booster as is. It's not that big of a deal any more. You'll get sick at some point and survive.

The whole point of the vaccine isn't to prevent people getting it, it was to lessen the symptoms, so our medical systems don't get overloaded.

At this point while people still get it, we're not in danger of the same issues when the pandemic started. People who get their yearly boosters will be innoculated, and the people who are antifax risk getting their darwin award.

The government is no longer subsidizing access to vaccines and COVID tests, increasing the price quite a bit for the uninsured, which will obviously reduce vaccination rates.

I get the booster when my doctor tells me to, and at this point, whoever wanted to get vaccinated and boosted have.

And it's terrible to say, but anyone that hasn't gotten vaccinated and aren't on a booster schedule kinda get what they deserve.

Covid isn't as deadly as it once was. Far more virulent.

Every disease can do that potentially. You make it sound like humanity will eventually die to long COVID, but it's not nearly so dire as half of CE makes it sound like.

Ok, so then what's your solution then? You're the one saying it's a problem, so tell us the solution.

People are getting vaccinated. People are getting boosted. Are they at the number they should be at? No. But at this point, all you can really do is offer them and make them affordable and available enough that anyone that wants to get vaccinated/boosted can.
