Yeah I'm also not a fan of Kiritsugu.

I think he's a compelling and good character but I absolutely cannot ever agree with his actions.

Everything he did in F/Z made total sense. The airplane, the stuff during the war. It all stemmed from how he failed to act with Shirley on the island and the repercussions from that.

He's definitely a flawed character, but he's a great one.

Nah, his actions are pretty despicable no matter how he tries to justify them, and the show forces him to confront that he's not actually a good guy by what he does.

Yeah exactly, and that confrontation and how it breaks/changes him is god tier stuff.

Speaking of God Tier, good lord Brave Shine might be top 3 openings ever.

I give the show credit for that, not him.

Just about everything I saw him do was justifiable and understandable. Definitely not righteous, but he played the game as it was meant to be played. Using Caster's madness to get Lancer to be chivalrous and then turn it against him was 200 IQ sorry about your luck, Diarmud.

Kerry is the best and I absolutely loved him as a protagonist. Yeah he's not exactly a great person but his flaws and the actions he's willing to take make him a fascinating lead, especially when contrasted with basically everyone else in this franchise. (But especially Shirou, obviously)

Again, it doesn't matter to me how he can justify it. The show doesn't agree with his justifications and neither do I. I want a hero I can root for and I can't root for Kiritsugu.

See I was having this argument about Overlord the other day and why I can't stand it. All the weirdos who like the overpowered villain power fantasy coz they have miserable lives eat that shit up, but I like when characters have consequences for their actions and Overlord is just "Nah the bad guys win" over and over and over and it's just in the most horrible ways possible. It's not good just because it's different.

Kiritsugu at least faced consequences. Good character, great writing.

I like the first season of Overlord a lot, and the first part of season 2 with a whole different setting was fun. Most of S1 had bad guys losing to the bad guys, and there's plenty to get out of that. It's one of my favorite little mini-arcs of Hunter x Hunter!

But after that I started really bouncing off it for similar reasons. Season 3 in particular I hated enough that I won't be going back, I don't understand how someone could watch some parts of that season and enjoy it.

Pretty much the same feeling here. I started out liking Overlord and then slowly lost any sympathy for the cast until I just didn't care about what was going on anymore.

Fate/Zero isn't the same, though, like I said I think Kiritsugu is well written and interesting, I just don't agree with his actions. Doesn't help him that he basically thinks he's in the wrong genre when the Nasuverse 100% runs on idealistic shounen BS lol.

So when UBW finishes, are the Heaven's Feel movies like... a reset and re-doing the whole arc?

Remember, the original was a visual novel with branching paths. It splits at a certain point

Yeah. The original VN went:

Fate route (Saber focus)
Unlimited Blade Works route (Rin focus)
Heaven's Feel route (Sakura focus)

The new anime adapts UBW. The movies adapt HF. There's an old anime that adapts Fate but it's probably not worth checking out honestly.

EDIT: And yes the plot is very different each time.

The biggest problem of the old anime is that it mixes all three routes together. Otherwise it could've been a decent Fate route adaptation.

And yeah I have exactly the same problem with Overlord. S1 was great, then it progressively got worse.

I just watched a few scenes of Deen UBW and man....times were rough for Fate fans.

Thank God for Ufotable.

And it sucks because, there's a genuinely awesome story in there somewhere but they bury it in tons of sadistic torture porn with no tension because the bad guys are just unstoppable.

The best thing about the whole show is the Ainz and Renner dynamic tbh

I didn't mind the original Fate anime.

UBW is way better though.

Heaven's Feel movies are all reviewed pretty well. I just don't know how you justify splitting it into three movies

well you're watching 24 episodes of UBW. HF is every bit as long as UBW. so three movies even is a bit tight

ubw was two separate seasons i think. people had to wait between s1 and s2.

Ideally we'd never have to wait for anything to finish and we'd be able to get it all at once

But this is an odd thing to complain about

Well, when it's stretched out beyond what's needed, that's one thing. Doesn't sound like that's the case with the movies.

Like if they tried to make an entire season worth of content into a single movie, it would probably be pretty bad, like the Clannad movie was.

Even amongst Ufotable Nasuverse movies, Heaven's Feel is just 3. Kara no Kyoukai is 9 movies told out of chronological order!
