I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to account for the animation in infinite Girl since that's just the end of the episode. But, it is against Idol so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Idol's animation style is quite pretty. infinite Girl when it got into the actual song, still felt like something that works more for someone who has watched the show already. Not sure if putting a 6 minute ending scene worked in its favor here.

Unmei no Roulette Mawashite is pretty by the books, classic anime opening. Get Wild is also fairly standard but I like the song and style a bit more for it.

Two matches featuring entrants I really didn't know what to make of visually, picking the more traditional options here. Though I have heard GET CHANCE AND LUCK before as a meme, now I know the actual context i guess.

I'm honestly not sure what to make of infinite Girl being a literal ending as opposed to just credits, so I'm just going to pass on that match.

first one is no contest. six minutes just too long for infinite girl, plus idol is good.

second one tougher. don't feel great about voting for a 3 minute movie ending, but it was pretty sweeping and got me invested even though i haven't seen any city hunter.

infinite Girl isn't actually 6 minutes long. The ending was used in two different episodes. The video shows both the one nominated followed by the other. I think that voting is supposed to be based on just the first one?

I added the second one as a bonus for extra context since it's effectively an extension of the first's scene (and song), mostly just since i knew it was going to get destroyed here so i figured i might as well make the most of it

truthfully i'd have picked the latter's use of it if i could but it's not the actual credits in that one (it's two scenes before the end in the movie)

spent a good 45 hours encoding both (after learning the "voting based on the animation" part was a thing, since it just got in off the song alone in noms...) and it's a bit bittersweet it didn't help lol

Idol is a neat package of things I like. The way the OP goes, it kinda feels like Yoasobi's Ikura is giving voice to Ai. So the in story super talented idol is being played for this OP by the country's actual hottest act. Then the lyrics just match her character with the whole lying theme.
Ai shines brightly when performing, but the OP does also give off that this series about the Japanese entertainment industry has a darker side.I just thought it was really well crafted OP.

I've seen quite a bit but not all of the City Hunter anime, Get Wild's ED is the same one used for in the show and I did go back and check and yeah, the animated parts line up with the episodes they are referring to. Good throwback to the show's classic moments, plays up the nostalgia hard, which likely won't work for most voters here.

How am I just now seeing this contest?! Wish I could've shared some of my favorites during nominations, but that's okay, at least I get to vote! Let's see how things have gone so far...Dango Daikazoku, Magia, and Only My Railgun winning is good to see. Ambiguous losing, not so much. Anyway, onto today's matches!

MATCH 1

YOASOBI's been one of my favorite artists to listen to as of late. Though, to be honest, Idol's far from my favorite song of theirs. I definitely would've preferred Monster being here instead. I don't know if this helps illustrate my music tastes at all, but for reference, my favorite YOASOBI songs are Racing into the Night and RGB. Back to Idol, though, I'm usually not the biggest fan of talk-singing, and the singing verse that comes after doesn't really do much for me either. But the chorus is where the song really shines for me! Animation-wise, I like the flashiness of how Ai's concert is portrayed and everything after that. I know Oshi no Ko's been very hyped, so I'm eager to check it out at some point, especially since being a vtuber fan, the themes of the show are probably at least somewhat adjacent to that.

Infinite Girl's not really resonating with me, unfortunately. Though, I like it more in the shine version part of the song, especially from 4:36 onwards. I live for emotional scenes, so seeing two characters share a heartfelt moment like that is a nice touch in the animation as well.

MATCH 2

Unmei no Roulette Mawashite and Get Wild are both songs that I'd say aren't really my thing. They're both fine songs, but I feel like they don't really stand out a whole lot to me. I like the former song noticeably more though. I like the shots of the detective kid getting teasing expressions from the other characters and of the characters singing karaoke to the song in Unmei no Roulette Mawashite. That's probably the slice of life fan in me coming out haha. I like the James Bond-style action shots in Get Wild too. Feels like I enjoy the animation equally here, which I feel like will be a recurring thing in this contest for me, since I usually don't focus on the animation when watching OPs/EDs and thus I feel like I tend not to have a strong opinion one way or the other on that.

I feel like these writeups look a bit negative for everything, so sorry about that! They're usually not like that.

first match is painful because infinite girl is actually great, but even if voting without the animation (which does hinder it here unfortunately) idol is still gonna eek it out just a bit :( this is one of the only times i think knowing japanese is a hinderance cause i still wanna watch wixoss at some point and im trying to tune out the monologue so i dont get spoiled LOL imagine if i could vote the NU-KO version of idol here how crazy would that be (the chance of that happening in the future is shockingly non-0%) anyway yeah banger match 1, honestly one of the best pairings in round 1

god i love conan's little monologue at the beginning of openings in this show, its so good lmfao, i actually just baaaaarely didn't nominate a different conan song (as the dew) but anywho yeah this is a good one! and wow this match is a blast from the past, this version of get wild is fuckin great oh god. whiCH DO i pick this is actually insanely hard lol.... as much as i hate to do it to a classic, i think i have to side with Roulette today. i think the original get wild might be winning here cause i want that authentic old rather than retraux right now but yeah. fucked up also nice timing with this match a few days before the sequel movie comes out lmfao
