For years now we've suffered a steady drumbeat of Nazi shooters almost identical in their ideology and method. AR-style rifle. Body armor. 8chan manifesto. Often swastikas and references to other shooters. But half our media/government pretends they each occur in a total vacuum. The media covers events episodically which means they cover each one as a distinct incident rather than thematically, which would involve characterizing events like todays shooting as just the latest in a series of interconnected events with common underlying causes. Responsible news framing would place the shooting in Jacksonville in the context of other racist acts of mass violence, as well as in the context of things like politicians who use racism as a campaign strategy, lawmakers trying to ban books about African American history. Responsible coverage would also place the shooting in Jacksonville in the context of our nations obsession with making weapons of war available to all, and it would explain how racism is used as a marketing strategy by the NRA with deadly consequences. What we are actually seeing, in the broad context, is a decentralized right wing insurgent campaign. Not dissimilar to the kind of thing William Luther Pierce wrote about in The Turner Diaries. (you can read about him here https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/individual/william-pierce) This isn't a new concept, Louis Beam advocated for it decades ago after watching large scale neo-nazi and white supremacist plans for terrorist action be foiled by terrible Opsec (usually due to infiltration by federal law enforcement). The following article is from 2019, but they get it mostly right.
