It isn't the same though. You can't always see the floor is wet.

This sign is more like "Please remember to breathe if your lungs start to burn".

I am not saying I would take a pic of it and have a meltdown on twitter over it but I think someone actually thinking up, sitting down, creating, and taping up a sign to remind people that you need to drink water when thirsty is equally as silly

I actually appreciate the comments on the article.

Rachel will be deliberately NOT "minding the gap" on her next tube journey. Be sure to let us know how that goes...
...
The irony of a 59 year old woman complaining about infantilisation whilst bragging about being a 'rebel' in the most infantile way.
They are suggestions, not bullying. You don't have to abide by them, as Rachel Johnson so clearly attests in this article.
This article says a lot more about an upper middle class boarding school alum's psyche than it does about the the Mayor's policies.
...
Girl, it's really not that deep, they are just suggestions, and you don't have to let the whole country know that you are 'the rebel that doesn't follow commands'- I don't know what you expected the response to this article to be- did you want everyone to clap for you? We get it- you are a middle-aged woman who has nothing else serious in life to be annoyed about except billboards on the tube

The fact the sign is even there probably means some dumb motherfuckers did forget to drink when dehydrated, passed out/got heatstroke and the transit service (or whoever) are sick of dealing with it.

Note that someone is having a meltdown on twitter. I'm here to suggest that the kind of person who does that might actually require being told to drink water or breathe.

On a more serious note, people can underestimate how much they need to bring water on a hot day, "Oh, I'll just be out for a little while," or "It's fine, I'm not that thirsty,". Heat exhaustion can sneak up on you and a little reminder isn't a bad thing. People write themselves post it notes about their groceries to remember to buy them when they go to the store, it doesn't mean they're so senile they can't remember what food is.

47% of Americans don't drink enough water

https://tinyurl.com/37c3supx

So it actually seems like people do need reminders to drink more water. Also, that's not an accurate comparison because breathing is an autonomic function, it's done without you actively thinking about it. You must actively and intentionally consume water.

Somebody recently died because they underestimated how hot it was going to be and didn't bring enough water when out on a boat. And then, when they came back in and were really thirsty, they ended up drinking too much water because they were so thirsty and it literally killed them.

So, yes, proper hydration isn't always obvious with temperatures rising and rising.

The only thing silly is people like you getting upset over the sign.

Sure but it is not something you can't really ignore it or forget, in the same way as breathing. Your body lets you know pretty urgently if you need it and if you don't heed the call you gonna die. Ya know, like breathing.

This story doesn't even make sense. You think that if that sign had existed there for these boaters that day, they would have turned around and got more water? They already brought water and thought they had enough. Why would a sign telling them to drink water if it's hot change their actions at all or make them think they for some reason needed more water? I don't see the daily temp forecast on that sign? I don't see the recommended liters hours per temp on there? All I see is a sentence more pointless than your story.

sweet christ, the point is that people DO underestimate and having reminders hurts no one and is therefore better than nothing. It's not always going to help but this story illustrates that we need more education available and you're railing against that.
