I liked Kara no Kokoro quite a bit, but the Lucky Star OP is just so much fun that I had to vote for it. Second match was easier, that ED was super cute.

Great Days is also great and I'd have voted it over either entry in the first match pretty handily, but Dango Daikazoku is a legitimate contender for best OP/ED of all time. I only didn't nominate it because I assumed it would do poorly so I'm glad some people had more faith in it than I did. At least to me though a lot of the appeal is how it ties in to the themes of the show, along with the fact that it's reprising one of the best musical motifs.

I haven't even watched Clannad, but I had to nominate Dango once I noticed it hadn't been nominated. It's just bad luck for me that it's up against another one of my noms in round 1.

I think the first match is fairly medium, both songs have fun parts but don't excite me too much, the visuals are also not that notable I think. Can't say I've ever wanted to rewatch the Lucky Star OP though whereas the Naruto one I'm more ambivalent about, so I'll give it the nod.

Dango Daikazoku is better than I remember beyond just being cute, but Great Days is super catchy and has some really neat visuals. Better quality match but also not as close.

Kara no Kokoro is a fun song, but the animation felt like it was completely phoned in. Meanwhile, Motteke's a classic.

i can't believe i'm listening to dango right after hbr completely emotionally destroyed me this is clearly a KEY conspiracy. The crayon-like graphics really make it feel special and heartfelt. the chorus is so emotional. Breakdown's pretty fantastic too, I won't complain if it wins. It just oozes style.

Kara no Kokoro is totally fine. Nothing special, the animation is okay and I'm sure with context makes it a lot better, but that's something that I'm going to try my best to divorce from my decisions so as to not just blatantly favor openings and endings that I'm already familiar with. I know it's basically impossible, but I'll still at least try to do so! Anyway, Motteke! Sailor Fuku is an all-timer for a reason. Insanely catchy and fun, although I gotta say whoever decided to do this lyrics stuff with the BD version that's linked did not make a good decision whatsoever lol. Which is ironic cause I LOVE some of the lyrical stylizations in japanese (the <-ketsuron and kya? wa! iiv especially)

Great Days is good, and I especially love what the second version does, which I won't go too much into ccause you should definitely go watch jojo part 4 please do it my family will not eat until you do itp LEA9SE anyway. Dango Daikazoku is gorgeous in every way. Compositionally, lyrically, animation-ally, it's just. ;___; crazy noisy bizarre town clears both of these lmao but yeah it's gotta be dango

I think it's pretty well known that Lucky Star is my favorite anime of all time. But I actually only "like" the opening. That said, I think Kara no Kokoro is a pretty weak entry and there are several Naruto OPs that are just better than it.

As for the second match. I actually forgot that Dango had the cute animation because it's been years since I've seen the ED and before that I was ready just to give it to Great Days, which I think is a great OP, and I would have probably voted it over both entries for the first match. But the full Dango package is too good of a pick here.

lucky star op is one of those OPs where it hits you like a fucking truck and from the first I BUY SAUSAGE it sinks its teeth into you and you're like what the fuck is this but soon enough you're hooked and you reach that enlightened state and you understand that yo this is fucking ANIME right here i'm IN i'm IN

for dango take note at around 46 sec when the music begins to SWELL and the visuals BLOW UP WITH IT. it's a GIANT FUCKING CIRCLE we are all together in this. your heart should ACTUALLY GROW IN SIZE upon witnessing this.
