Bigass localized floods that become a part of a culture's mythology aren't exactly uncommon.

Dont play dumb lol. Noahs ark is mostly related to Christianity. No need for the technicality posts just to insult the dude.
Is that how Muslims see it?

'Yeah, that Noah guy in our Holy Book, he's more of a Christian thing'.

It's not a technicality, it's a reflection of your cultural bias.

Maybe a local flood, but not a global one. Too many issues for a global one. And back then, most of the lower classes thought of "the world" as the area they lived in.

It was the prevailing belief in some ancient cultures, but there were people proving earth is a sphere since ancient Greece, and they even had a pretty accurate measurement of its size more than 2000 years ago. Pre-medieval Europe did not widely believe the earth was flat, and it's also a myth that the Catholic church forced people to agree with the idea it was.

But we inherently are though since they're making the same claims about the same events in favor of the same God.

Also, this statement is demonstrably false as multiple people in this topic have said such things as direct as "fuck Islam" and "those religions are fake" (referring to Islam) and "Islam is rather silly". All without being modded, of course.

Your victim complex is getting in the way of your ability to read. It couldn't be more clear. Every single claim you've made in this topic is false.

I have a theory that the universal flood myths were just a way for ancient peoples to explain how fossils of sea life could end up on a mountain. Kind of like how fossilized skulls of Crete's extinct pygmy elephant might have led to the myths about the cyclops.

I knew that that the Abrahamic religions were all related in their mythologies, but I hadnt quite given it much thought until working with a devout Muslim woman for six years. Theyre all just differing interpretations of the same source material.

...Noah's ark is a Old Testament story, and a very important one in the OT. It's literally a story from Genesis. The fact that Christians latched onto it so heavily is just an example of how they pick and choose whatever the fuck they want to believe in when it comes to the OT.

If you're gonna believe in Noah's ark and hating homosexuals then you better also stop eating shellfish and wearing fabrics made of multiple fibers, otherwise you're damned all the same. #toughshit

This is almost certainly the case. Especially in Greece you can find all kinds of sea fossils on the rocky islands.

The thing about the floods is.... Like, it supposedly happened after Moses, so that's just in regular history... It's so dumb.

There is the Black sea flood that happened about 7,500 or 9,500 years ago (I forget which.) If the story of Noah has any basis in reality it probably started as a man who gathered his family and what he could of his livestock into boats and rowed towards dry land.

I think that's why more progressive followers of the Abrahamic religions tend to read the story as an allegory or at least as a local flood that got heavily exaggerated.

You don't need to take Noah's Ark literally to be a follower of Judaism, Christianity or Islam.
