This shouldn't have to be said, but there was no benefit to black people being slaves. Our ancestors had skills before becoming slaves, and any hypothetical additional skills learned during slavery could have been learned without slavery.

The idea that our ancestors saw a benefit to becoming slaves is beyond a bad take to argue.

It's always a treat that people can see how America & Europe carved out and colonized the African continent, caused irreparable harm, and then point to the disrepair now and say "See, you're better off colonized because things are so bad in Africa".

But these same chodes are the ones who say, "At least slavery brought them to America, otherwise they'd be worshipping trees in Africa". As if worshipping the sky daddy & being enslaved is any better LOL. It's the same crap they've tried with Native Americans. "Let's excuse atrocities and generational trauma, America gave us Christianity and capitalism." Get the hell out of here.

I don't take any of those idiots seriously, but there are a lot of them in positions of power in government and school board, etc so I can't ignore them. It's the "Well at least our plantation is better than the plantation over there", it's all bad so STFU. It's the age old White Man's Burden bullshit, like Africans and Natives were just sitting around staring at their navels, doing nothing, building nothing until settlers and colonizers came.

Nevermind the fact that the Natives helped keep the settler's asses from literally starving early on, or enslaved Africans bringing the skills that they learned IN Africa, for thousands of years, to the Americas. They want to have a weaponized ignorance against those facts, and pass it on to their kids because God forbid a white child will find commonality with black and brown folks and become allies instead of perpetuating white nationalism.

I saw a couple videos today, DeSantis is still defending this. I'm actually starting to believe he doesn't realize that Africa had cultures and civilization long before America did.

Yes, we are taking a different approach as republican policies and behavior becomes more and more extreme. With the recent laws and rhetoric bumping up against actual Nazi era laws we can't really moderate posts that make that comparison anymore.

Actually, towards the end of 261's life a few regular posters got in the habit of asking known trolls and shitposters to just explain themselves. What they found was that if you invite them to just explain themselves, and they do, they almost always end up finding themselves suspended because their own words damn them.

I think it's more a case that what he's saying is just so indefensible. In the past the GOP usually at least attempted to dress up their racism so they could have plausible deniability, such as saying the Dem party "buys black voters with free stuff" and "it's basically modern slavery" or "back on the Democratic plantation", but here they're just flat-out stating that slavery benefited African slaves.

To me it seems similar to comparing the usage of "urban" to just flat out calling them the n-word. They could spend all day explaining "how "urban youth" isn't actually a racist dogwhistle", however they're not getting away with doing that for the n-word.

I doubt these Republican party members themselves are actually concerned or care about it (they're smart enough to know which party they shill for), however I think they're worried their constituents will hold it against them if they don't speak out against it.
