That's.. not a whole lot. Either way, it's pretty insane. No jail time. You get sentenced to death. They brought back the death penalty in 2022.

So for one thing, even if countries didn't call out Singapore due to political economic reasons (such as the inadequate responses to countries like Saudia Arabia), it would still be an autocracy where the state kills people for petty offenses.

Secondly, yes, Google is your friend, Singapore is internationally condemned for its reinstatement of the death penalty.

Singapore's barbaric legal system allows for no mitigating circumstances, just execution.

A lot of the executed are desperate people who are blackmailed and threatened. They get put to death. They aren't killing drug kingpins, mostly low level smugglers.

Singapore is an extreme authoritarian state that exerts surveillance and control over its citizens to a level that is hard to comprehend: forget to flush a public toilet? Enjoy your $100 fine.

Using drugs and alcohol should not be considered criminal behaviour unless its paired with something that actually victimises another person. As it stands far too many people are having their lives hampered by prison (and post-release), which also results in their overcrowding.

I dont use hard drugs, but if I wanted to it should be my business and mine alone.
