Ive been here long enough that I shouldnt be surprised that nearly any topic at all can devolve into dozens of posts of nothing but petty squabbling, but here I am wondering once again how this topic is still going.

It is pretty easy to not bring drugs to Singapore.

For one thing it's not tourists or drug lords primarily getting the death penalty, it's impoverished people and addicts. Particularly marginalized citizens (the convicted are disproportionately of minority ethnicity). For another thing that's just really useless to say, like wow crime is technically a choice so I guess any punishment is perfectly justified

I bet theres very little drugs there.

No, El Savador pretty much proved otherwise on the matter. They locked away all their gangs for life and have seen a significant drop in crime. Like over 90% if I recall.

I can get why many do not agree on Singapores stance in such regards but it's working.

Ok I just read the rest of the topic and a couple people didnt understand. Drugs arent a thing that anyone really wants to prosecute unless its heavy weight. The DA will not even prosecute a simple possession charge unless theyre carrying over 2-3 grams. And throw away doesnt mean in the trash. It means get rid of in the evidence vault.

You guys wouldnt know, but thats not really a lot of drugs. And you dont always hammer and arrest everyone for everything. Sometimes you take the drugs and take the person to a drug rehab center.

Or for one example, I had a guy in a stolen car with a stolen gun and drugs. Theres no point of charging them for the drugs, theyll get the drug charge dropped anyways. Ive arrested people for 200g of meth even

Theres always a bigger picture. Just not arrest everybody you see for drug possessions
