Years ago, I thought the future was bright and promising, but now I am seriously starting to think that we are reaching the end of times. Just look at all the crazy s*** that has happened just over the past few years:

-First pandemic in over 100 years
-Global warming causing scorching hot temperatures all over the world
-Russian invasion of Ukraine and China potentially invading Taiwan could lead to WW3
-Severe droughts and massive floods on the rise in US and other parts of the world
-Rapid advancement of AI is causing massive panic

It feels like everything is hitting us at the same time. We are dealing with disease, war, climate change and AI all at the same time. Things don't look good.

This isn't gonna happen, I assure you the rest of the world would rather see Ukraine and Taiwan annix'd before even considering a massive conflict like a world war in the modern age.

Pandemics and war have been a constant throughout human history. If anything, the West has got off lightly since WW2.

Global warming will get us in the end if we don't do anything, and AI is going to change the way we live.

But none of this is making the end of the world seem imminent.

Regardless of "it happens in every generation", I legitimately feel like the political divide and climate changes will destroy our society. It won't be the end of the world, but it'll be the end of life as we know it. Corporate greed is raping us and we are just laying here, letting it happen.

I wouldnt say the end of the world but the effects of climate change are starting to be felt by the first world. Current systems are ill prepared to respond effectively. As it gets worse the call to overhaul those systems will get stronger and idk how the ruling class will react to that.

So maybe more like were about to enter/are entering a transition from relative stability in the first world to instability.

It's the end of a cycle, not the ends times. That's why stuff feels like it's falling apart, because it always does at the end of a cycle. Yet humanity continues on.

If y'all have never heard of the Strauss-Howe generation theory, I suggest you give it a look. It explains a lot about humanity, and should make you feel better about the times we live in. But to put it simply: every 80-100 years humanity finds itself in crisis of some sort that we eventually break out of.

yes they will, our entire society is built upon the idea of "You need to work, if you are not working despite being able bodied you are not needed" the rise in automation and Ai will raise corporate profits even higher than they are already while also increasing crime and homelessness because not everyone has the means and ability to work the few jobs that will be left after this process reaches it's fever pitch, in fact, because of this workers rights and wages will likely fall further than they are now because with such a massive amount of people being desperate for jobs it means the corporation doesn't have to work nearly as hard to keep employees no matter how scummy they are to them, there will always be replacements, think about it, Garnish their wages, strip them of their benefits, coarse them into shady situations and they'll do it because the consequence is losing this job they desperately need to survive. It's a wonderful thing, desperate cornered people utterly powerless to stand up against you as you wring every single drop of productivity and labor you can get out of them before they break, then you can quickly fill their spot with another desperate human in seconds. Effectively creating an endless farm of people to keep your business running. Now then, as for the people who can't work, they'll simply die on the streets, the prisons or the wilderness because there will be no incentive for corporations or governments to keep them alive, with no residence they can't vote, with a conviction they can't vote and in the few cases they can vote they'll simply brainwash them with propaganda about the" lazy entitled poors who refuse to be like you. valuable voter and just get a fucking job, flooded job market is no excuse, healthcare concerns are no excuse, you made it, why's it so hard for them?"

AI is the future alright, but for anyone not already benefiting from it there is no positive future for them.

Do you really think it will? There's no way corporations are blind to the potential money making scheme here let alone the ability to snatch a lot of power from the worker and give it to the corporations, especially with how pro business this supreme court is, I find it hard to believe they won't treat AI like they treat Guns

You really havent been paying attention to the nature of the powerful have you? And I dont just dont mean now, I mean since pretty much the beginning of written history. There is nothing to indicate that theyll suddenly start acting right when it comes to AI. Its going to be used to exploit you and control you.

I've felt like this for a while. I used to say that there would be a fundamental societal shakeup during my lifetime, I just didn't expect it to be so soon.

What I've chosen to believe is that ultimately, "eras" are self-selected retroactively, and anything you read suggesting otherwise is pushing a narrative. Everything's coming to a head, but anything that deals in personal information is trying to absolve themselves of blame and make any bad stuff as local as possible. It's not enough that the world is ending, it's your fault too.

Thats because things were likely easier when you were younger and you didnt see the BS older people had been dealing with.

-First pandemic in over 100 years

Yeah these things are not out of the realm of possibility.

-Global warming causing scorching hot temperatures all over the world

Temps have been hot every year and while global warming is real, its not going to kill us if it does for a very long time.

-Russian invasion of Ukraine and China potentially invading Taiwan could lead to WW3

That wouldnt lead to WW3.

-Severe droughts and massive floods on the rise in US and other parts of the world

Thats not new. Thats poor infrastructure.

-Rapid advancement of AI is causing massive panic

Its like when computers first became a main stay in peoples homes. Or every generation when technology advances. Theres nothing scary about it.

The beginning of the 1900s involved a massive war, absolute economic devastation, a deadly pandemic, ANOTHER massive war, genocide by a major European power, and the use of nuclear weapons before a cold war between superpowers.

I'm gonna say that's FAR WORSE than today.

Three of those things are because of climate change. (The pandemic, temps, and the other weather issues.) Youre massively overstating the AI thing.
