So a whole bunch of places don't actually follow the rare, medium rare, medium, medium well, well done scale anymore. Many won't do rare to begin with and even then will flirt with avoiding medium rare. Instead, what they really are looking for is "pink" or "no pink". Whatever you say is translated into those two options.
Some places will admit this outright. But others wont and rely on you not knowing the difference (95% of people won't)---
