Some of it is the job market as well. You go through school, get a shitty job and then tell others to not make the same mistake.

Doubt it. The leaders in Idiocracy actually wanted to improve things and sought the most qualified people for the job.

Why remember anything when you can look it up?

Why learn math when you have a calculator?

You don't need to know how a TV or computer works to be able to use it.

If anything the ease of access to information has made people offload their mind onto Google to deal with.

Idk... things are kind of different now. Would make it kind of harder to grab ahold.

Still, kind of besides the point. One can point to worse times we've gotten through. Yeah?

Be a "cup half full" sort a guy. Great for your health. Mental wise.

Life is too short, I think, to waste it on being negative all the time. Mind you I'm aware sometimes "not" worrying is a privilege not everybody has. But that's missing the point. Positive when able.

There's a multitude of reasons at play here.

Republicans being one of those reason.
The promotion of relying on technology being another. Some are way too giddy about wanting things like AI take over shit in an unrealistic hope it'll make life easier.

Generally speaking, if you actually give af about making "money," you should care of the intelligence of those in charge, so to speak.

And that in turn is affected by voters. So in effect, you should worry about them as well.

Just saying though, don't get mad.

Seems like you have cause and effect in reverse. The academic system is only really suited for the latter. Artificial demand and student pressure drive the incentives of the admin to cater to the former.

The weakness of that is when people trust the first/only source they find/use (and, often, use dubious sources), always take what they read at face value, and never dig any deeper or sample other sources.

What does "trust/confidence in higher education" even mean? Like, are we trusting them to provide good/accurate education? Are we trusting them to not rip us off? Are we trusting them to actually be a worthwhile investment toward getting our feet in the door later? What exactly are we talking about here?

These figures seem useless/inconclusive when attached to such a vague inquiry.

Who cares about education when a woman literally became a billionaire from a sex tape? What kinda message does that send to the rest of the 300 million citizens?

Or when a literal ratchety 16 year old girl got famous off a viral meme catchphrase in "Dr" Phil show and became a millionaire?

How exactly do you convince people to pursue the debt causing higher education after coming out of the constantly underfunded public education? When sports and kicking a lemon ball around is more valued than the sciences?
