Just noticed their main channel has 17.5m subs, more than Playstation, Nintendo of America and other big gaming channels.

I didn't realise they now had such a big online imprint, since I just remember them as the guys people joked about for having game bad reviews with weird scores.
What worked for them that didn't with like say Gametrailers or even Gamespot?

Catering to the algorithm.

People who complain are generally a smaller group but a lot louder than people who are okay with things

Gamespot used to be as big as IGN. Now IGN's over 10x bigger. Crazy how that changed.

This is it. They always show up and their guides are simple and easy. It's a shame something like gfaqs didn't follow trends more in this sense.

I always thought IGN was the big mainstream place to congregate on gaming stuff *shrug*

I've never been a fan of the IGN guides. The structure is fine but the content always feels off to me. I pretty much always stick with Neoseeker or Samurai Gamers if guides are available and I want to use one for something.

Half their wiki pages are empty but they still benefit from bring the top google search. The other half are lazy and full of bad or incomplete information.

Surprised people think they are good. Maybe 1% of them are thorough and those are for the most part only the most popular titles.

Tbh these days I enter a search string into YouTube and have some rando's vid show how to do certain section.

While for something like Persona social link management...I'll use gamefaqs.

I just really needed to know how to climb this tower after getting stuck for so long.
