I have a question. Are nominations for characters that debuted in Pokmon Gen 4 allowed? Diamond and Pearl initially released in 2006, but didnt release internationally until 2007.

Cynthia was in the 2007 contest. Lucario technically debuted in its own anime film which released a year earlier, which is why I nominated it.

Yeah IMO there's no ambiguity with Lucario. He should absolutely count as 2006.

Yep, both of these. Lucario is a unique case but most Gen 4 Pokemon stuff was eligible/nominated in the 2007 contest

Honestly this might be the first time I just leave it up to a vote. I try to be generally as permissible with entries as possible but I don't love the idea of opening up dozens of different Links as entries, especially given how they are almost guaranteed to significantly impact the results of every contest featuring them from here out

I also haven't played the Zelda series and can't make a very fair judgment personally on whether they should be considered new characters objectively and people have very strong opinions both ways so I think I'll leave this up to the masses

I don't think we really needed a new topic just for that. I think having the debate in here would have sufficed. Especially since a new topic could attract people who otherwise wouldn't even be participating in this contest to voice their opinion on the matter, influence the results, then never show up again.

There's a few other characters I've seen nominated that aren't really different enough to qualify imo - I was even hesitant to nominate Pyramid Head, but I guess he's technically called 'Red Pyramid' in the movie and has a more significant role in the story. No way Pyramid Head could ever have a more significant role in a story than freakin' Silent Hill 2. He's technically even called "Red Pyramid Thing" in SH2 as well. Still, movie PH has very little to do with the actual game version so if there were any debates about his allowance it's most certainly a new interpretation in my eyes.

Yeah compared to the game, PH in the film is pretty much there just for fanservice. I mean I think he has some cool scenes in the movie but it otherwise completely misses the point of the character.

I think at this point I'm calling it on Link being excluded. The people that nominated him can feel free to have an extra nomination to use as they like.
