I'm not sure what the gameplay is, but I notice that all of the spinoff and release party members are absent. Of the other games' spinoffs, I only played P4AU; did Labrys keep appearing in later games?

They almost never put spinoff or rerelease characters in anything other than the game they were introduced in or adaptations of that game.

In fact I'm not sure that's even "almost", it may just be never. Nothing I can think of right now at least.

Yup. I think the last three SMT games did it too.

SH2's DLC is apparently really bad though, so missing out on it isn't too much of a negative. Basically felt like cut content from the game that you excise to make a tighter experience.

To be fair, Marie was barely even a character in Golden to begin with (and a completely irrelevant one), so it's not like they had to try very hard to move her to a spinoff. Her existence is air.

Someone like Kasumi would have to be tiptoed around quite a bit for an "extra" character and probably wouldn't be considered worth the trouble when they feel they don't need to. Naoto is a main character and in Q has a major part of her character arc (In Q she's openly female from the start) from 4 offhandedly spoiled if you don't play through most of 4 before you play Q.

you can dislike Marie but I don't think it's fair to call her irrelevant, even if they shoehorn her into stuff to make her matter

well I guess you can just skip her S. Link and she winds up not mattering

None of the things they shoehorn her into have any actual effect though. Her presence never feels like it actually changes anything. Her S link feels like a side story that never really interacts with the main in any relevant way.

It's obvious the entire time that she's an extra that doesn't matter. You can't tell with Kasumi because she's actually integrated into the story.

I think Kasumi is definitely integrated better and is just more well-written in general (despite Marie's excellent poems) but I also never miss Kasumi. I didn't care that she didn't show up in Strikers and I don't care if she's not in Tactica. She's kind of boring!
