Just started Dressora arc. Hope it pics up, not too fond of it first few episodes in.

It's a decent arc imo but there are so many subplots even in the manga that I couldn't imagine watching the uncut anime

yeah, i've been watching one pace. might go back to watch good filler, also thinking about deviating to watch the movies. they any good?

So far I've only seen Strong World, which was decent.

Even the worse strawhat has seen a small development with his "I'm the captain" routine being humbled during Water 7.

He was my least favorite for a long time, he's grown on me some, can't say I really dislike any of the Straw Hats anymore.

Usopp was my least favorite at the beginning, but I like him now. Probably the funniest character, has utility to the crew, and has some good moments.

Sometimes some of them do something announcing, but none of them are outright bad.

I would agree, if not for Sanji.

Where I'm at in the show, he's just such a fucking creep, all the time. As much as I liked Thriller Bark as a whole, it possibly perma-ruined Sanji for me as a character. He's just so gross, and even his really cool moments don't bring it back enough for me to overall like him.

I've had some people tell me I'll come around eventually, but idk man. I'm 500+ eps in and he's the only crewmember I legit dislike.

I love one piece but Oda has this weird idea wanting to peep on women and being a bit of a pervert is hilarious and totally just male passions, totally normal not creepy at all. All guys understand deep down! Also only guys get stuff like robots and ninjas.

It's weird, like I feel it's sort of for a joke but also sort of how he really feels sometimes.

Looks like theyre finally about to reach Fishman Island.

So far, post-time skip Im liking the direction of most of the characters, and Ive liked the moments where theyve each gotten to show off a little of what theyve learned/how strong theyve gotten over the past 2 years.

You all know what Im bout to say next tho.

How did they manage to make Sanji even more gross and annoying. Like, hes confirmed transphobic now, is even more obsessed with women to a literally dehabilitating degree, and also, frankly, his training arc makes the least sense of any of the crew. He just spent the last 2 years running away from drag queens and trans people? And that somehow made him stronger? And I guess there was something about a special dish they had that he may have learned how to make, but as of now that was pretty glossed over.

Ugh, I hate him. Only crew member I hate rn, everyone else fucking rocks.

Even the other perv characters like Franky and Brook are so much better developed cause thats not their entire personality. Franky especially I wouldnt even call a perv necessarily, hes just a bit of an exhibitionist.

I do love that he got fucking nipple lights installed on himself, I fucking love Franky.

Only other character complaint I have so far is I dont like how much theyve dumbed down Chopper. Like, yeah, I get it, hes naive. But hes not an idiot, hes a fucking doctor. And they also keep trying to paint him as a weakling, but weve seen him go fucking ham multiple times before. I love Chopper, but I dont love the direction theyve been taking him.

yeah, chopper is just the cute best boy toy now. feel like he's more comic relief and part doctor now.

I realize their idea of "okama" is not something I fully get.. but it looks really offensive here in America...

Though I'm not impressed by what I'm hearing about Gear 5 since it leans into shonen tropes I consider cliche.

I have mixed feelings on it. On one hand, I love Ivan, I love that they are an important character and at this point a beloved friend and ally of Luffy. In general, the New Kama(?) people have been very supprotive of Luffy, and Luffy has shown no signs of any disrespect towards them being who they are.

But then there's fucking Sanji... But at least since it's just Sanji, it's a little easier for me to just comprtalize it as "That's just part of Sanji's character... and his character fucking sucks."

That is a good way of putting it. The New Kama Land people are easier to take as they actually aren't that much different from a lot of the lovable weirdoes they've met and both Bon Clay and Ivan own it and are mostly portrayed as heroic or likable and engaging.

But the Kamabaka stuff where they are like "check out all the five o'clock shadows and really ugly faces on these people" bit is really hard to take especially since the anime extends the cover story so much as to be painful

Getting the backstory on Jimbeis connection with Arlong now. Its crazy how much One Peice brings back characters from the very beginning and makes them important/relevant again several arcs later.

Gonna do some actual write-ups soon; realizing that I never gavre a propper one for Impel Down/Marineford so I'll do that soon, but man, I also have a lot of thoughts about Fishman Island.

Gotta be honest; while there's some super cool moments still, as of right now I'd say it's the weakest arc yet. There's some cool stuff with the race dynamics between humans and Fishmen, the deep underwater setting is cool, but overall: the villains are kinda weak, I feel like they could do even more with the setting (you set it fully underwater but still give them a full sky and it looks relatively like the surface world overall? That's lame.), and they just continue to dig Sanji into a deeper and deeper hole of being awful. The rest of the crew is pretty great post-time skip. It's been fun seeing what they've learned over the past 2 years but everytime they focus on Sanji I just hate him more and more.

At least we've gotten more JImbei. I love me some Jimbei.

Yeah, I agree on the view about fishman island overall. Its main reason for existing is to be that standard shonen "let me show the results of my training" arc. The one piece manga was coming off of a one month long break when the time-skip started, and most of us one piece fans was still in that "ooooo lookit all the new designs for the strawhats oh man I wonder what they do/how stronk they got now!" phase, lol.

The new fishman pirate's existence is to be walking, talking fishy punching bags to showcase the strawhat's powers (and to reunite with the bro jimbei). They were never meant to be a serious threat to the strawhats, so they had to get dumped on.

(Just throwing it out there but from here the anime exaggerates how much luffy "struggles" with putting the next like, antagonists down. *light spoilers for these 3 after hody here* caesar clown, doflamingo and charlotte cracker* In the manga proper when luffy is putting down his opponent with the final attack, well, they go the fuck down. There is no "beam struggle" or pushback, they get knocked the fuck out. The anime stretches out these final attacks a bit to make it appear more exciting or something).

Going back to the fancy new post time-skip thing, of course majority of the fanbase is going to want to see the new straw hats really dive in to some new world opponents that will put them to the test. Combine not getting that because of punching bag targets with a racism theme that the overseas fans may or may not want to see (personally I liked seeing what the fish peoples went through. Fisher tiger that dude) and the arc isn't going to end up one of the more exciting ones. I also agree that sanji gag with the nosebleed was mad annoying, but apparently japan loves that shit so it is what it is....sanji's character will forever be getting kicked in the nuts with the women flanderizing.

I feel fishman island is the nadir of Sanji so it's all uphill from there.

Honestly, this isn't even the worst he gets up to where I've seen in Dresrossa. Punk Hazzard is. And that's what you're going to see next. It's so fucking obnoxious and is almost painful to sit through. Literally painful. Like, it was the first time I felt embarrassed watching One Piece. It was already metaphorically painful.

That's fair. And if anyone is following where they're at currently in the Anime, I feel like Oda really threw it in and just pulled out a pair of really cliche Shonen Tropes when he wrote himself into a corner during Luffy's fight with Kaido. It was like Goku going Super Sayian for the first time. Except back when DBZ was first in the States, every Shonen didn't seem to inevitably do that.

I haven't looked closely at it, but I'd also say the Anime is trying to pad runtime, because the New World does end up getting more filler than the Pre-Time Skip stuff, I think they were trying to lessen the danger of catching up so they didn't have to go to super extremes with filler (see Bleach, aka, the one that actually threw a filler arc in the middle of a fight), and they were already doing a chapter an episode before that.

After finishing Thriller Bark on Netflix I discovered Hulu has the dubbed episodes a the way up to the time skip (half way point more or less) so yay I still have access to more dubbed episodes.
