Howdy all. Since the announcement is a little bit vague (as corporate announcements tend to be), Allen just wanted to hop in and chime in a bit more casually about why the board was closed.

The primary reason for the closure was an attempt to help align all of Fandom's newly acquired brands with the existing community guidelines that they already have for Fandom.com. Political boards on other brands like GameSpot were also shut down as well.

Generally, Fandom attempts to prevent communities being built specifically about politics. You can see an exerpt from here: https://www.fandom.com/community-creation-policy

"Wikis whose main purpose is to represent a political party, advocate for or against a political ideology, or generally opine regarding political issues;"

Allen originally had some hesitation about this idea when it was first brought up, but to be honest, board 261 was by far the biggest drain on Allen's moderator resources across the whole site, and one of the boards that garnered the most complaints from users. In the end, Allen does agree that it makes sense not to have a board that specifically caters to one of the most notoriously divisive conversational topics known to man. By removing the board, Allen is actually helping the mod team as well.

Does this mean that boards like CE are also on the chopping block? Not at all. There are occasional political topics here, but this board is mostly just a hub to discuss anything and everything. Allen did raise the user level for this board as a temporary measure to prevent flooding from alts during this transitional period and after a few weeks or so, he'll poll the board and see how you all feel about lowering the level back down a bit or if you prefer the newer version.

Amazing that the MAGA mod staff not only didn't want to do their job of modding MAGA posts, but now they are blaming the "lefties" and pretending like they are being non partisan by killing all political discussion

Sure is a coincidence how all these companies keep selling out for alt right owners who immediately cater to the salt right while pretending like it's "fair".

Or at least, I would question that if it weren't for the fact that the majority of the people saying that near exclusively posted in that dumpster fire, maybe CE in the political topics, and literally nowhere else. I suppose it makes the real question why here of all places to talk politics instead of some other website, but OK I guess.

I dont think its politics specifically being gone thats the issue (although it certainly makes me less likely to visit gamefaqs), I think its the clear intervention of Fandom and their bullshit reason for doing so.

It was shut down because Fandom doesnt like politics being talked about on their sites. Thats literally all there is to it.

And in my experience the only people who got called MAGAS are the ones who.. clearly were. Im sure some were falsely called that, but thats because they were espousing right wing and alt right opinions. Nobody falls for the Im a liberal but thing anymore.

Politics is being discussed in some form or another on all the popular gaming boards. A character not having square boobs (Tifa) was political discussion for the better part of a month. The SF5 board last I visited was anti-sjw hot garbage because of the change to Mika's super.

Games frequently have political angles with regards to them as well.
Anyways, this board will likely follow.

That first sentence just isnt generally true. Did it happen? Probably. Everything happens at some point. But Im betting you were seeing people like TonyKojima who were known trolls, mostly.

as for the second bit Ive been active since the announcement and I havent seen anyone say that? Was it earlier in this topic? If so thats maybe one person, right? Im an evil left wing politics board poster and I know full well this is entirely on Fandom not wanting politics on their sites.
