Floridas state education department rejected two new Holocaust-focused textbooks for classroom use, while forcing at least one other textbook to alter a passage about the Hebrew Bible in order to meet state approval.

The books were rejected as part of a broader review of new K-12 social studies material. According to documents provided by the state, the education department did not approve any new texts on the Holocaust this year.
Reached by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, a spokesperson at the departments press office was unable to confirm whether there are older Holocaust textbooks already in use that can still be taught in the state.

Clamp down on 'woke indoctrination'

Under Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, the state has made an effort to clamp down on what he calls woke indoctrination, mostly regarding race and gender. The textbooks rejection is the latest example of how that drive is affecting Jewish topics as well.
One of this years rejected Holocaust textbooks was called Modern Genocides, and the other was an online learning course titled History of the Holocaust. Both were intended for high school students.

None of this crap from Gov. DeSantis is helping Floridians. Restricting what books their students can read won't help anybody, restricting what is taught in school, like this example, won't help, and battling Disney in the court of law is literally, obviously, definitively going to help absolutely nobody in the state.

It's kinda baffling, but it also isn't kinda baffling. DeSantis is playing the anti woke game because he REALLY wants to run for president, but the sad part is, he isn't as liked as Trump and it really kinda comes off as pathetic.

i liked when he brought up responsibilty to tax payers... to disney, the largest tax revenue in the state

i'm sure even one of his supporters having their land forcefully taken from them by him would cause them to not support him anymore

so it's unlikely that that would happen

Freedom of speech is overrated. We need to start making hate speech laws and putting checks and balances to prevent the rise of fascism

Disney was a major campaign contributor who helped him become governor

yes but through attacking disney he drums up more support, and more importantly, more voters for him

yes it's still hurting everyone, i'm not saying it's not

i'm saying that him literally coming for their land would be enough for them to turn against him, because his people are the type that value land over government, even if it's a government they like

Probably shouldn't have given him the helmet people generally associate with WWI and the Kaiser then. Like 99% of the google results have him either not wearing any hat or a more typical military cap. But yeah, Hindenburg hated socialists too.

People also tend to overestimate how popular the Nazis were in Germany. They never managed to achieve a full majority of the popular vote in elections, even the wildly corrupt ones where they jailed their opposition and sent thugs to beat up their supporters and smash their printing presses.
