You could definitely buy a nice house on your own with that income but with the current housing market, it wouldn't be anything too extravagant. My brother and sister in law each make like 150k-175k a piece and while their house is really nice, it's not a mansion. That's enough money that you don't have to be particularly frugal to avoid financial troubles, but not so much that financial trouble is entirely off the table (which is how I'd interpret "very well-off"), and also not so much that you can live comfortably without working if you're so inclined (which is how I'd interpret "rich"). --- This is my signature. Yeah depends where you live. My base salary is like 36k. Same job in Cali pays over 90k. And to my understanding we both live about as well as the other. Taxes kill me. I made 55k the year before last and 75 k last year (overtime hell) and I don't feel like I'm really doing any better off. Part wages, part property? Middle class.
