That's enough money that you don't have to be particularly frugal to avoid financial troubles, but not so much that financial trouble is entirely off the table (which is how I'd interpret "very well-off"), and also not so much that you can live comfortably without working if you're so inclined (which is how I'd interpret "rich"). --- This is my signature.
