BlueCrystalTear 05/08/23 9:16:31 PM #9:	Odyssey is the second-best headgear-based platformer of 2017; that's not saying it's bad since it's a downright fantastic game, it's just that A Hat in Time is more thoroughly amazing. Odyssey's standout levels really stuck with me (namely New Donk City) in ways the rest of the game did not. The gameplay is fun and progresses from the Galaxy games well. There are some great boss fights too, as is typical of Mario. BotW is overrated - while it's still a good game, I'd say its 8/10 is less than most of the other 3D Zeldas. The weapons breaking is a huge problem since it happens just as quickly late in the game as it does early; there should be some sense of progression as you play through the game, become more experienced, and discover more things. There's also a sincere lack of things to do; the game is just exploring, and there's a real world you can do that without the worry that you'll run into a Lynel. The cooking system leaves a lot to be desired as well. The biggest flaw of Odyssey is that it's relatively easy and so you can kind of just go through it. This bothers some people; it doesn't particularly bother me. BotW seems to rely on an ethereal greater-than-the-sum-of-its-parts quality, which is why some people just don't like it at all, but it's a great experience if it clicks for you. There's a few kooks calling it terrible as if it's a 2/10 game, which is objectively just not true. There's very few mainstream published games that truly fall into that category and a mainline Zelda game is certainly not going to be one of them. Mostly when I say "hating" it's a certain revisionist history of "actually it's not really that good of a game" 7/10 crowd. However, it's no big deal, because the people making these games basically never do direct sequels, so I can hold out for the next one. Then both of them announce their next game is a sequel to the previous game that I fundamentally did not like, and there's really nothing that can be improved to MAKE me like them without complete changing the game's core. So now instead having to wait 3-5 years for the next entry I'll enjoy from this studio, I have to wait potentially 7-10.
