I'm a few months behind on their podcasts but this fucking sucks! Been listening since the beginning and I was impressed how they managed to keep going strong even after Austin left. It's really felt like they've found a good rhythm lately, so naturally it was time to kill the site.

Yeah it's really too bad, very sad to see them go.

The Vice news is... interesting

Vice has filed for bankruptcy, and been accused of delaying paychecks, and even outright not paying production staff and freelancers.

They built their brand on essentially trying to expose WWE and its stars through 'Dark Side of the Ring', but it's now emerged that they were treating people pretty badly themselves, and is filing bankruptcy as a result.

I'd never even heard of Vice until Dark Side of the Ring

Terrible news though. Sad that Vice is in a tough spot now.

Should also be known that Waypoint were straight up profitable and sustainable, however that is not endless growth so Vice cut them loose. Which from my understanding is what theyre doing to everything.

You can be critical of Vice all you want, I sure as fuck am, but that statement is so blatantly incorrect that it's actually bizarre

That's probably right on the edge of what could support a team of 4 with nothing else. Not that they're going to go the Patreon route but...

That might be enough for four Renatas, but the rest are married, and Patrick has two kids and a mortgage. Factor in healthcare, the support they got from Motherboard staff for certain things that they will no longer have, the cut Patreon takes, and the way taxes work, and the Patreon route quickly looks impossible.

They were profitable. Remember Waypoint+ was only part of their income, and that alone was probably covering 90% of staff costs. What got them was the growth obsession thats getting every media company around now.
