Morrowind. I hate the noise that Dreugh make. But its the weird bleating near ghost fence that got to me. There arent any goats or sheep or anything else in the game that makes that noise. And for some reason that just freaks me the hell out.

I was playing Sims 2 and accidentally got my wife pregnant

Trying to sleep and the weather radio alarm suddenly goes off with a tornado warning but it's like 20 miles off and moving away from me.

Are those the vampires? Because going into a cave and running into those things scared the crap outta me.

And as for games that are supposed to be scary its Alien Isolation all the way. I had to stop playing it because it gave me too much anxiety. It took me almost an hour to crawl through baggage claim!

Nowadays adds, even Deviljho, are just a bonus

For me it's Microsurgeon for the TI-99/4A. Early '80s graphics and sound synthesizers make seeing - and hearing - human organs function a truly frightening experience.

In the first Freedom game, even the Kut-Ku seemed scary on first encounter.

Arguably Subnautica, which isn't strictly a horror game, but I don't think I could reasonably say its scariness isn't deliberate.

I bought Life & Death around 1988, back before most PC's had sound cards and only had the little speaker on the motherboard. It came as part of a cheap software bundle and didn't have any instructions.

I go into surgery and the first thing I do is pick up the scalpel. The nurse says something like "You need to give the patient anesthesia first." Really? I have to do everything myself? Fine!

Remember I said there were no instructions? I start hunting for the stupid anesthesia and finally find a syringe labeled "A". "A" must mean anesthesia, right? I always thought they used gas for major surgery, but maybe that's just on TV. Whatever! I inject the guy with the stuff and nothing bad happens. I pick up the scalpel and the nurse doesn't say anything this time, so that must have been the anesthesia. (It wasn't.)

I take the scalpel and quickly cut a giant square on the patient's abdomen.

The computer started SCREAMING!

It startled the heck out of me at first because I had no idea it could do that, and then I just burst out laughing at the absurdity of the whole thing.

I always wanna crap my pants in Mgs2 where the ninja calls you to tell you about the claymore mines.

Probably. I would generally rush forward the moment I was strong enough to beat a given area, and would only level when I had trouble.

It wasn't until FF3 (FFVI) where I played for 16 hours and got stuck on the Floating Island because I was too weak to go forward and there was no way back (and everything was too strong to level off of), and had to completely start the game over that I started taking power-leveling more seriously. And started using multiple staggered save files to avoid that sort of lock.
