I played P5 years ago on the PS3. I later played P3 and P4. Last year, I played P4G because it came out on Steam, and I could barely power through the game; it was way too long and not different enough from the original. Is P5R very different from the original? Is it worth playing if I already finished and had a perfectly good time with P5? Is it also like another 50 hour game?

I finished Persona 5 Royal earlier this year, and I think that I spent 90 hours on it

I would say P5R is a massive step up in terms of gameplay and general quality of life improvements. The only less-than-ideal stuff is the brand new story elements.

I disagree entirely. I'd say the third semester is one of the best parts of P5R

It's tempting to linger in this moment, while every possibility still exists. But unless collapsed by an observer, they will never be more than possibilities.

The only way P5R is inferior to P5 is difficulty. P5 wasn't super challenging to begin with, but Royal is, by and large, even easier.

Other than that, it's a definitive edition with very enjoyable new content. Definitely more than 50 hours unless you're super rushing (IIRC my original play of P5 was around 80 hours, and my first play of Royal was about 100)

The new content is fantastic overall, particularly the new characters and third semester. Also, P5 is one of the best games ever made, so replaying it is always a good idea

If you're the kind of person that doesn't get excited about the prospect of playing a 100+ hour game, then P5R might be too much.

The new part of the story sucks but the gameplay is much improved.
If you couldn't do Golden though, I don't think Royal will hold your attention either.

Sounds like it's been a few years since your vanilla p5 playthrough, so this might be fresher than playing p4 and then p4g right after.

but yeah, it's long. this is generally a good thing, but I do think that p5 royal is too long by about ten hours or so.

the additional story content in royal is much better than the additional content in p4g

The third semester is incredible and worth a replay alone. I'm surprised to see that some people hated it.

P5R is worse than P5

It adds 50 hours of content to a game that didnt need more content. Some of the features are cool, but none of the features are better than the original content which leads to a bloated 150 hour game instead of a fairly well paced 100 hour game

Also even some of the QoL changes I was pretty bleh about.

I really didnt like that they changed guns from exciting powerful when needed abilities to oh I guess I should just fire my gun every battle now because why not.

the only major issue I have with p5R is that it definitely is too easy

if it was able to be challenging the entire way through I think it would be a fine length.

but this is just a part of the persona 3 and later model. they all get way too easy at around the midpoint, so that the ends feel drawn out

Without going into too much detail because this isn't really the place for it, I don't feel it continues the plot or themes in a meaningful way. Feels more like a straight-to-DVD sequel story with half the cast acting super OOC that is just made mandatory before getting the actual ending after the natural endpoint of the story told up to that point.

Brings a game I would say is a 10/10 or very close down to like an 8.5/10 imo.

Also it doesn't help there is an ACTUAL 'straight-to-DVD' sequel that is actually good and 100% ignores Royal's plot editions too in Strikers.
