...it seems like it's at a percentage that is much higher than the avg. population? Have seen some topics on this site asking users if they want children and it seems the numbers that don't want them is higher than the general population, though.

This is loaded question is founded in toothless hyperbole. Not only that, but it's baseless conjecture, because your supporting statement:

I don't think a lot of people can afford children anymore.

Maybe you should submit that as a site poll.

I can't afford children, don't want the responsibility of raising a child, and don't want to worry about my kids possibly dying horribly from climate change related things after I'm gone.

I have too many things I want to do with my life and I don't want the burden. Also I'm epileptic and don't want to be responsible for it if I have a seizure and lose control.

I wouldn't mind having kids tbh.

I don't like it when I hear from every single intelligent person I meet on the internet saying that having kids is pointless, in the most well thought out and articulated way, lol.

dumb people pump them babies out because they literally cannot do basic math. "$8000 a kid born in the US? Only if I have $8000 to give them."

And then they wonder why the place is run by Televangelists.

This. Plus divorce/unmarried is at a high level. I couldnt imagine having kids and having the threat of a spouse dippin on me. Single parenting today is no joke

have kids and you have to do like a million things per kid I think

and youll still probably do a crappy job half the time no thanks

I find most guys don't want children. They want wives who will have their children and then do all the work raising the child so they can say they have one.

Its cause most people here cant take care of themselves let alone a child

Most guys dont want children.

They just go along with their girlfriend / wife, and she only wants kids because shes trying to copy her family and friends who are all getting pregnant and having families.

id also like to look at the percentages of happy surprises or happy accidents, in which the parents pretend that it was planned all along and basically build an entire family and multiple kids on that lie. Because that percentage must be massive.

but well never know because people love to lie to themselves and to everyone else around them

Is this actually true Most people I know are pretty honest about it. Theyll straight up say they werent planning to have kids, and then had a kid And for the ones who actually planned, we know way in advanced because they always seem to have the most trouble, in the cases of people I know, at least

Plenty of folk in real life don't want or need their own children. I do want my own kids one day but I can see why that lifestyle isn't for everyone. You're basically giving up your freedom for another life for years, maybe even decades.

I know what you mean, but there isn't really an ethical solution to this.

Intelligent people collectively aren't going to start having large families because it economically and socially goes against most of their own best interests. Individual intelligent couples having lots of kids to counter the surge in the number of stupid people having kids won't be enough to effectively counter it.

A better solution is to demand high quality and well funded public education. A child of a stupid person won't necessarily be stupid themselves.

Barring that, we're certainly going to see a massive decline in the quality and influence of western countries. That sounds like the future's problem, not mine.
