It is good

i haven't played this since my initial burst which was like a year ago now i guess, insane how many updates they continue to release. i'm in awe. don't really feel like returning so soon though, maybe one day.

As someone who's been sitting on the sidelines, I have to wonder why so many people find this low-res game about walking around while things randomly die around you so fascinating. I get that it's cheap, and maybe I should give it a try, but I follow a few indie game news channels and it seems like the phrase of last year that I heard constantly was "Vampire Survivors clone"...which is impressive for a game that also technically came out last year, but it still leaves me completely befuddled as to what drives this subgenre. Is VS really that good?

it's very fun and addictive yes

Worth keeping in mind that one of the things that people like about VS is the constant stream of content it got.

yeah vampire survivor's amount of "secrets" is very impressive. it's got the same vibe as like when you were a kid and were passing around tips to your friends like "hey did you know if you play this character and go to this corner of this map holding this one item there's a super strong secret character you can unlock?!", idk why it feels it sort of nostalgic in that way, even though you basically just look them all up in a guide anyways its still pretty cool

It also asks very little of you. I sometimes feel like "I don't have the energy for this game" or possibly any game, but Vampire Survivors was never too much. It's kind of like an idle game without the waiting. You put in some decisions and they play out between level ups.

Solid video game, dirt cheap, many hours of enjoyment.

It makes me feel like I'm playing an NES game in all the good ways.

I honestly dont get NES vibes from the game at all other than the fact that it takes theme inspiration from Castlevania.

You could easily make it work on an NES controller.

i don't really feel that way but maybe i was playing wrong. like by the 20 minute mark sure you should be powerful enough to just watch stuff happen but man, reaching minute 10 in hyper dairy plant and stuff like that? took a lot of focus

No, I agree it can get intense, but it's just... simple. You're basically only moving your character and making decisions. Almost every game I want to play is more complex and demanding than it. While the 30 minute run length takes some commitment, it's pretty easy to pick up and play for a little while and accomplish something.
