I knew the impact looked bad but god damn. Guess all the makeup helped cover it up in the moment. I was a little miffed that they halted a hell in a cell match for doctors but it was definitely the right call.

Rhea/Charlotte is probably the best women's match the E has put on.

IC title is big meaty men slapping meat.

Paul keeps being way better than he should be.

Tag main event was dope.

Uh... Night 1 way better than Night 2.

Fun (pending on who you ask) statistic: HHH's "reign of terror" lasted from September 2002 to April 2005 and involved him headlining most ppvs and winning five World championships. It clocks in at 944 days.

Roman Reigns' current run since winning the Universal title in 2020 just passed that last night.

I can see that.

Like... I'm looking at two particular WCW shows in 1999 and seeing if they match up

Nitro - March 8, 1999
- 1 full hour of prerecorded segments from the nWo
- Finally get Nitro opening segment at 9 pm, starting with a Flair/Goldberg promo with Flair turning heel, six days before facing Hogan for the belt
- Raven vs Hak ends in a no contest when Bigelow interferes, despite it being falls count anywhere
- Jericho defeats Lizmark Jr by submission
- Scott Steiner defeats Booker T by submission
- Rey Mysterio defeats Scott Norton by pinfall
- Bret Hart defeats Van Hammer by submission
- Flair and Goldberg end in no contest after nWo interference

Thunder - December 16, 1999 (It's noteworthy that literally zero matches ended clean on this specific show)
- Buff Bagwell d. Vampiro by pinfall
- Prince Iaukea d. Evan Karagious by pinfall
- Jim Duggan and Midnight d. Saturn and Asya by pinfall
- David Flair d. Norman Smiley by countout
- Steve Williams d. The Wall by DQ
- Dustin Rhodes d. Curt Hennig by DQ
- Sid Vicious and Chris Benoit d. Hennig, Shane, La Parka, and Creative Control by DQ
- Kanyon d. DDP by pinfall
- Bret Hart and Goldberg vs Outsiders never started due to interference and time runs out on the show

Now, I'm pretty positive WCW in 2000 had quite a few duds, but I'm in no mood to look them up

I imagine they tape off a few sections but with the right card they might be able to get over half of it, which is impressive for AEW. apparently All Out is still going on a week after too?

They might be able to get help from New Japan (Ospreay and ZSJ) and some local talent maybe. Pretty sure Bucks/FTR will be either a tag match or a trios match with Omega and a certain muffin eating wrestler

WWE's The Man: Roman Reigns

WWE's The Man, Women's Edition: Rhea Ripley
AEW's* The Man: CM Punk

* - Title started in TNA in 2011 when Ric Flair lost his final singles match to Sting. It made it to AEW in 2021

With the WWE draft coming up in the future, I briefly looked back at the original draft 21 years ago with brief thoughts on whether the picks were good or bad. Top 10 only, starting with...

Smackdown
1) The Rock - Obviously the biggest draw at the time and you can't blame Vince. Unfortunately, Rock wrestled Jericho once, took 3 months off to make a movie, then returned to win the Undisputed title and be on both shows before a longer hiatus. Soon after, Hollywood Heel Rock was on SD for a month until he beat Hogan, in which he then was granted permission to jump to Raw to bury Toronto on the mic and pursue Austin
Grade: C

2) Kurt Angle - Outstanding run on SD over the next 3 years with top caliber matches, 2 world titles, a tag title run, and even a GM spot.
Grade: A+

3) Chris Benoit - Started on Raw at first but took the IC title to SD for a couple weeks that same summer. Eventually had a tag title run and a Rumble victory before jumping back to Raw in 2004
Grade: A-

4) Hogan - Was written off by Lesnar in July 2002, came back to lose again to Rock and be Mr. America. Eventually (briefly) left WWE in summer 2003.
Grade: B- for putting HHH, Kurt, Rock, and Brock over

5) Billy and Chuck - 2x tag champs, followed by a ceremony ambushed by Bischoff. After the split, Chuck joined the FBI and Billy had a forgettable solo run
Grade: C+

6) Edge - Part of the Smackdown 6; two tag title runs and competed for the WWE title on a few occasions before an injury kept him out of action for 14 months. Was drafted to Raw near the end of said injury
Grade: B-

7) Rikishi - Forgettable at this point. Lost on occasion to Lesnar, heel Cena, and others, but did have a tag title run with Scotty at least. Left WWE in July 2004
Grade: D+

8) D'von Dudley - Started Reverend gimmick to very few laughs and would soon be traded to Raw within 7 months of draft. Still, he did beat HHH and introduced us to Batista, so it wasn't a total bust.
Grade: D-

9) Mark Henry - His feats of strength fizzled out after summer and was written off by Brock. Made it to Raw over a year later with Teddy Long
Grade: F

10) Maven - Immediately lost Hardcore title to Raven who took it to Raw. Did nothing of importance for 7 months before being traded to Raw himself.
Grade: F

Raw

1) Undertaker - Flair's top pick, just two weeks after their WM18 match. A solid, yet short run on Raw which included Taker's final WWE title reign. Would soon jump to SD after Summerslam to pursue Lesnar.
Grade: B

2) NWO - Giant bust. Hall was fired a month later, X-Pac was released by September, and Nash was on the shelf for 9 months. Vince mercy-killed the faction in July. The only positive was them bringing back HBK, but he'd have a better calling shortly after...
Grade: F

3) Kane - A pillar on Raw for over 4 years, even if involved in bad storylines with HHH and Lita. Won 3 tag titles on Raw and stayed on the brand until losing to Umaga in 2006.
Grade: A-

4) RVD - A strong part of Raw over the next two years. Competed for both the WWE and WHC titles, won 4 IC titles, 2 tag titles, and was the final European and Hardcore champ, all before being drafted to SD in 2004.
Grade: A-

5) Booker T - Worked his way up with this pick. Competed for the WHC a couple times, won the tag titles twice, and one IC title. Eventually sent to SD in a big trade in 2004.
Grade: B+

6) Big Show - As brief as his alignments. In 6 months, Big Show joined the NWO, lost to Austin, and feuded with Booker T before being traded to SD in October. First thing he did on SD was give Brock Lesnar his first loss for the WWE title.
Grade: F

7) Bubba Ray Dudley - Spent months in the hardcore title division with 10 title runs. Eventually reunited with D'von later that year and won the tag titles twice in 2003. Traded to SD with Booker T in 2004.
Grade: C+

8) Brock Lesnar - Wouldn't be long for Raw at all. Brock at least won King of the Ring and nearly won the IC title. Became the youngest WWE champion in history on his final weekend as a Raw superstar before Stephanie bought him out.
Pick: B+ at least for all he did in little time

9) William Regal - Brought European title to Raw, played hot potato with said belt with Spike Dudley and Jeff Hardy before it ultimately retired with RVD. Also won a handful of tag titles with Lance Storm, Eugene, and Tajiri before eventually ending up on SD around late 2005/early 2006. All in all, a pretty solid run.
Grade: B

10) Lita - Flair's unexpected live final pick turned out to be a well one. Lita remained on Raw for the remainder of her active WWE career which ended in November 2006. Sure, there was a bad angle with Kane and Snitsky, but Lita still won 3 Women's titles and was actively in the main event scene either as Kane's wife or Edge's girlfriend. Surely that counts for something
Grade: B
