Especially the guy who was watching for the first time right around the same pace I was, I forget your username, but we're in this ride together bro.

Still in the Water 7/Ennis Lobby arc, but I think I'm closing in on the end though. They're all splitting up into their individual fights currently.

I'm really liking Franky, I'm 99% sure he eventually becomes a full time member of the crew, but I'm loving his character arc in the meantime building up to that.

Sanji got his ass beat because of his annoying bullshit character trope, so now I guess Nami's gotta step in.

I wanna like Sanji so bad, but he keeps doing dumb shit ;_;

Chopper's bout to go ham I think though, so hell yeah.

Also, the scene of Chopper just throwing random different beverages at Franky, trying different effects, and then Franky calling out the joke for being stupid was fucking comedy gold.

Yeah, at a certain point, frankly, he's weirdly just being selfish. He'd rather stick to his weird "code" than actually commit to saving the life of one of his crewmates. I know he wasn't thinking that far ahead in the moment, but honestly that makes it worse. His womanizing is so severe that he loses sight of ALL of his other goals.

And I know that it was supposed to be an acknowledging, character reafirming moment for Sanji, but the fact that Nami says something along the lines of "Your chivalry is growing on me a little" is fucking stupid and frankly out of character for Nami, that was solely to boost Sanji up, which he shouldn't be boosted in that aspect of his character.

But then he gets real gross and creepy at the drop of a hat and it's just like, bro. You could've been my favorite character by a landslide if you just dialed back on the womanizing.

I don't remember my last ranking exactly unfortunately, but there's definitely been some movement since the last time I did one.

Honestly the Boss Luffy concept is pretty fun, but why the actual fuck would they awkwardly shove it in the middle of this very high stakes, intense arc? Really kills the vibe. Would have liked this more if it had happened after the main arc concluded.

Man, the bubble fruit power is fucking insane.

The power of filler!

After Kalifa vs Nami, While I'm glad Nami finally got a true chance to shine in battle, Kalifa as a character kinda pisses me off.

After she was initially reveal to be a bad guy, she seemed fucking badass and cunning. She manipulated the mayor into letting her become his most trusted advisor. She seemed very intelligent, and while we didn't see her fight much at that point, she seemed like a major threat.

Then she kicked Sanji's ass. Sure, through manipulating his bullshit character trope, but she still kicked his ass fairly easily and again established herself as a major threat.

Then they reveal her new Devil Fruit power, and while at first it seems silly, they do a good job of showing how and why it's a legit threat.

And THEN...

They nerf the fuck out of her by randomly deciding she's an idiot now, when there's no fucking way she could have gotten as far as she did while being an idiot, focus on just objectifying her (Like, come on, what was the point of the bubble bath scene, ESPECIALLY if you were just gonna make her an idiot) and frankly kinda nerf her powers by the end of the fight.

That shit was dumb.

oda doesnt write good fights for nami overall
he doesnt like to pair men against women very often for fights
and he cant resist turning any woman vs woman fight into a fanservice spectacle

he was once asked why the male characters dont have their clothing damaged very often in fights and he said it was because no one would be able to take a fight like that seriously

and yet what happens in both of nami's biggest fights? ends up wearing next to nothing
this is an aspect that never really improves

Alright, I'll admit, "I guess I made it too spicy" was a pretty fucking cool line.

Sanji vs. Wolf man was a pretty good battle in general. Helps make up for the Kalifa fight a bit.

i'm telling ya waffle, you should try one pace. i didn't even know there was filler in enies lobby. surprsing, considering how much they chopped up the fights anyway.

there are several moments in the nami vs kalifa fight i like
nami making rain to counter her devil fruit for one
and creating a bunch of mirage thunder balls so that kalifa doesnt know which ones are real and which ones are fake so she cant tell which ones to dodge

Sanji's just so... weirdly frustrating, cause I want to like him so bad, but he just keeps doing really gross annoying shit, but then turns around and does some really fucking cool shit. The whiplash is infuriating.

I'll probably switch to it eventually, but I like watching One Piece on my PS5/TV when I'm laying down for bed, don't really wanna be limited to watching on my laptop or phone or something.

I know the pacing gets even worse later, so I'll probably just wait to switch until I'm completely fed up.

Some of the filler actually is kinda fun tho, tbh.

yeah i was enjoying filler episodes too. last once i watched was the G8 debacle. It just gets so, low stakes compared to when the real show starts back up again. Much more exciting than the filler. and there's so gosh darn many episodes i kinda wanna get thru it, ya know?

That's definitely fair. I guess my logic is, I'm only gonna watch through this once, so I might as well get the whole shebang while I'm at it. See the highs, the lows, the whole thing, even the filler.

My position may change the more annoyed I get with the filler and everything lol, but we'll see.

If you're still watching one piece this next arc might be rough. Pace is way better at this point imo.

I'mma give it a go, but if it's too infuriating I'll switch to One Pace.

I just like being able to watch on my PS5 lol.

If you get the pace files and put them into plex you should still be able to watch it that way. Although i haven't tried the ps5 plex app.

I know I'm really close to finally being done with Water 7/Ennis Lobby, and man, I'll have a lot of thoughts to share when I'm officially done.

It would be like if Bleach's subtitles were to say "Final Release" instead of "Bankai".

Alright, we've officially departed from Water 7. God damn, that was a wild ride. Some very high highs, but also a few lows imo.

Arc definitely started to drag a little by the end, particular the Ennis Lobby half. The Water 7 half I think was overall stronger. CP9 honestly weirdly didn't feel like all that big of a threat in comparison to a lot of big bads in other arcs so far. Or rather, they did in Water 7, but in Ennis Lobby a lot of them honestly weren't that intimidating and went down fairly easily. That said, there were some really good fights still.

Favorite fights:
Chopper vs Kumadori
Kumadori honestly ended up being the scariest of the CP9 members to me just because of how fucking weird and persistent he was. Also was beating poor Choppers ass until he ended up going Beast Mode, which was amazing. It was great to see Chopper get a badass moment, and then become super scary in his own right. Chopper's still one of my favs, so I'm glad this fight gave some new dimensions to his character and showed off his abilities more.

Zorro vs. Kaku
Kaku ending up becoming a giraffe and just getting fucking roasted by everyone for it was already a highlight in its own regard. Couple that with a fun initial setup with Zoro and Ussop locked together, and then seeing Zoro have to adapt to such a weird and goofy style was a nice change of pace.

Sanji vs. Jabra
Good redemption fight for Sanji after his ass kicking from Khalifa. Also loved how much of a weasely jerk Jabra was, while still also being a competent fighter. Fun fight.

Franky vs Fukuro and Luffy vs Lucci were decent enough, but for Luffy's fight I honestly wasn't as invested in this fight as I had been with others. As for Franky, decent first fight for him, and the goofy stuff like his "Centaur" form were a lot of fun, but I'm def waiting to see him get even better fights (hopefully) down the road.

I've already talked a good bit about why I hated the Khalifa fight(s) so I wont repeat too much, but man, that fight fucking sucked (except Nami, she was cool during it), and the whole situation really cemented Sanji as my least favorite crew member. That said, Sanji did do some pretty cool stuff in the second half, and him being the only member to not have his picture on his wanted poster is fucking hilarious. Also poor Chopper only being worth 50 berries.

Glad Franky's part of the crew now. His recruitmen was defenitely... different than the others, but the show did a good job of making me hate him at first, but then slowly warm up to him, and having everything work out and tie together in the end. Him whipping his dick out all over town was weird, but either way, I think he's a good addition to the crew.

Ussop... Man, he singlehandedly was some of this arc's highest highs and lowest lows. He was really pissing me off with how he left the crew, was being a big ol' bitch baby, and even by the end I still don't really like him as much after that, but man. Sogeking is by far the best thing Ussop's ever done. It was hilarious, he actually did some useful combat stuff as Sogeking, and also had that badass moment of shooting down the Navy Flag. That def helped mellow out how much he annoyed me during the Water 7 portion.

I did love how Zoro laid down the law with how he could come back though. It could seem harsh to some, but frankly, he was right. Luffy couldn't show weakness there. Powerful moment for the entire crew.

Robin 's backstory was heartbreaking, I love her so much. She's for sure jumped up a lot in my crew ranking a LOT.

Also fuck Splenda, I hate him so much. Which I know we're supposed to, but god damn.

Current crew ranking, from least favorite to favorite:

Ussop

I don't remember where I ranked her exactly before, but man, she went from being just kinda there to being my second favorite right now. It's close between her and Luffy, but the fact that Robin's backstory made me almost cry several times, man, that shit hit hard. Robin's great.

Big gap between Ussop and Franky tbh. Didn't feel right to place him above Nami quite yet, but I think I'm gonna like Franky a lot in the long run.

Good rundown. Only note I'd make is that Fukuro wasn't Franky's first fight. That'd either be Luffy back at the Galley-La shipyard, or Nero on the sea train, depending on whether or not you only want to count fights with him being the good guy.

ennis lobby and alabasta are my favorite arcs in one piece
and the i want to live scene with robin is my all time favorite one piece moment
also i remember thinking robin was super old back in the day since she was 28
now id kill to be 28 again :(

kaku was my favorite CP9 member
and i liked that everyone finally got a bounty in this arc

Da Strawhats looking up at da main building, looking ready to fuck shit up and declaring war against da world government for a single friend was so badass. Oda really knows how to give you dose kinds of moments tbh, you know you don't fuck with friends in dis series!!! Also only One piece would be able to make you cry for a boat lol

love teh sanji wanted poster xd and it pays dividenddssss later. it's fun.

luffy fight sucked in enies lobby cause it was so broken up. get a glimpse of the fight cause it fed into other events and left it too choppy to feel like a fight.

merry going down was :_; but so sweet she just sailed herself to pick up her crew one last time. the feels

and i'm also zoro stan him being my favorite. using usopp as a sword was pure gold. and he has real good moments as being a fighter and a leader. sanji got that mastermind though, and has some more later.

I do like that Sanji has become their kinda behind the scenes infiltrator kinda dude.

As I've said a ton and will probably continue to say, I wanna love Sanji so bad, cause he does do some really cool, badass things.

Then there's bullshit like the Khalifa fight that just tank him as a character. But don't get me wrong, Sanji's still a vital member of the crew. Just stop being a creep Sanji ;_;

Zoro's a great second in command for Luffy. He knows when to step in and be the enforcer, and when to chill out and let Luffy handle it. Frankly, Luffy got extremely lucky with Zoro being his first crewmate.

RIP to the Merry. The fact that the Merry got it's own soul and conscious personality by the end was pretty great. Important character building moment for the entire crew.

Thousand Sunny's a pretty bad-dass ship tho, excited to see it in action.
