Time Loop movies have the greatest ceiling, but also the lowest floor.

Multiverse movies are basically glorified reference fests at this point, but that's kinda fun in its own way too.

So I guess it depends on my mood.

azuarc wasn't even home. he was playing Magic the Gathering at his buddy's store, which is extremely easy to verify

Time loop is more easy to work with. But I really love the possibilities of multiverse if it's executed well.

time loop easy

thematically, multiverse works can ask "what if?" questions, seeing what could have been had other choices been made. time loop stories make the making of those and exploration of those choices the center of the story, and can much more deeply explore regret and determination on top of it

that being said, steel ball run > diamond is unbreakable

that's kinda my feeling on it. Multiverse media can be incredible when well-executed but it's also easier for them to lose focus and coherence

time loops are getting oversaturated but they're typically much smaller, driven stories

If any storyteller uses the term multiverse unironically I basically cannot take them seriously.

Both of them can be great. Also, I feel like most time loops take place in multiverses?

Also, I feel like both of these are typically used in stories that aren't really sci-fi focused. Like, the time loop is more often magically based than science, as is the multiversal travel.

I can't really think of too many bad examples of these concepts recently. Outer Wilds and Bayonetta 3 are both good times.

I guess 12 Minutes is the bad time loop example if you want one.

I'm not that aware of time loops in sci-fi specifically (save the Stargate episode) but I do quite enjoy them generally.

I should say this was actually reasonably good despite my hatred for that sort of premise in general.

This

I don't mind multiverse actually, but I've never seen one really hit the spot. They are always like "there's infinite possibilities!!!" but then use the same 5 alternate universes over and over to keep things simple. I want one that really dives into what it means to be infinite.

I feel similarly

Additionally, once the ability to traverse between universes is established, I wonder why no exponentially self replicating machines have moved to spread using that method

"Grey goo" scenario, even
