My disgust with the Republicans reached it's fever pitch years ago when the crowed booed a soldier and someone in the auidence yelled "Let him die!" Whoever said "The cruelty is the point" for this party were right on the money they care nothing but causing their enemies suffering like a bunch of sadistic sociopaths

I saw my dad watching it just a bit ago. I just walked in the room and said, "Ah, the yearly fascist gathering."

these are the people my parents vote for and fund. and then they turn around and wonder why i'm miserable and want nothing to do with them. negative self awareness.

So like, I totally get how this is bad and everything, but really I just can't support the democrats when you have a handful of people being assholes about a Harry Potter video game. The left is just TOO crazy for my liking and that's worse than this. For sure. Definitely.

It's still wild to me that the republican party has spiraled so much that they are just clearly an amoral and illegitamate leg of the government, such that they don't even try to hide it anymore. It's just "our main message is that minorities need to step out of the fucking way or face the consequences" and half of America is like "fuck yeah".

I've always had little faith in the American public, but this is beyond anything I would have predicted 15 years ago.

Now of course, there's a discussion to be had about whether one's beliefs matter if they continue to vote for a party that is angled to certain outcomes. And questions about the specifics of the poll, but it's in line with like, NC voting for a Dem Governor at the same time as Trump over their bathroom bill fiasco. This stuff does not have half of America on board, it's an election loser.

None of that stuff, of course, reduces the threat posed by the GOP and the most motivated anti-trans activists on this issue.

The problem with stuff like that, is those people will still 100% vote for **** republicans who are pushing this stuff. You see it all the time with the right wingers on gamefaqs when they come in and do their one line bullshit like "Based!" when DeSantis or Donnie, or some other shit stain GOP politician doesn't something horrific. You question why they like said person and list off all of the bad things they did and do the standard "Well I don't support THAT stuff!" It's the same shit with those polls. Those 62% are still going to vote only 1 way.

The Republican party deserves to be eradicated.

Non-violently, obviously, by voting out their members and prosecuting the many who have committed crimes.

Sure; I don't think intent absolves you from the impact of your political choices.

But I also don't think that CE's most dogshit posters are necessarily reflective of everybody who considers themselves a Republican. We saw in November, to use Georgia as an example, that there are significant gaps between the number of Republicans willing to vote for Brian Kemp, and the number willing to vote for Herschel Walker. Those gaps are big enough to win elections through. A strong Democratic pushback (which I don't think we've really seen from the leaders of the Democratic Party) on this stuff can widen those gaps.

There's a danger, in becoming fatalistic and overestimating the strength of your opponents, of creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I think if a party goes full fascist, genocide and all, and half of America still show them steadfast support, then there is something fundamentally wrong. Like, at least in Germany there was a complete economic collapse so you could maybe understand the desperation of the populus. Here, there's nothing. Just calls for more equity. That is the crisis that is pushing half of America toward open fascism.

No, it doesn't really paint the full picture. There's definitely a lot of frustration among voters due to wages and benefits stagnating hard over the past few decades, and the core Republican strategy is farming that frustration and diverting it toward a scapegoat. It's changed from time to time, from terrorism panic to immigration to critical race theory to transgender people, but it clearly works well enough for them that they decided to go all in on it, instead of even pretending to try to tackle economic issues anymore.

The punchline being, of course, that conservative economic policy is what fucked everything up in the first place.

He is correct in one regard: there is no middle way. There is no compromise to be made with these fascists, no common ground to find. Their ideology must be rejected, wholly, by any means necessary.

To be fair, the Nazis, at the time when there were still elections, never achieved more than 37% of the vote. They only came to power through parliamentary fuckery. They formed a coalition with traditional German conservatives who would preferred the Nazis over social democrats and thought that they could control the Nazis. The Nazis outplayed them and destroyed them, then did away with elections because all of the mechanisms of governance required everyone to be acting in good faith and the Nazis weren't.

All of these conservatives in the US who are willing to back the fascists in the GOP because they want power over their enemies are no different than the conservatives in Weimar. At the end of the day they'll get the same treatment as well.

What do you think he's proposing when he says "transgenderism must be eradicated"?

How much more plainly do they have to state their intentions before it's not a stretch? Do we wait until all of us are forcefully detransitioned, in prison, or dead before people will say "wow how could we have let this happen?"
