Seriously. Look at the top tv shows, movies, video games, and music every year. Theyre filled with guns, war, shootings, talk about fighting and violence, and glamorize violence constantly.

People are obsessed with true crime podcasts, watching murder trials on TV, and are bombarded with gun culture in the media constantly.

Wanna know why violence and crime are up? Because were obsessed with it as humans, and it will 100% be the reason for our downfall.

Problem is you have a ton of people who would rather hand wave and say shit like "it sells" or "it's always been like that" or whatever.

Or the guys who act like Call Of Duty doesn't actually influence real life shootings.

Honestly I used to be the guy who rolled his eyes when people would blame video games for shootings in society. Especially back in the Jack Thompson days.

but I def think its part of it now. Not the root cause by any means. But as games get more realistic and younger and younger kids are playing games like COD, I cant help but think theres a correlation there.

Agreed. People even ITT trying to pinpoint it one one thing only are ridiculous IMO. Its a multitude of factors at play, but the most blatantly obvious, all encompassing obsession with violence in society as a whole stands out to me.

Because it's not really accurate to claim it's media's fault.

For example, violent crimes statistically tend to correlate with a living wage.

Struggling neighborhoods tend to have more violent crime.

That's just one of the many factors that go into violence.

It's also crazy to act like a lot of violence being is a recent thing in the human experience. Multimedia was not always a thing, so if you think humans are violent now, you clearly don't know much about history and the senseless violence of our past. Dare say humans were much worse with each generation we go back.

That has literally less to do with multimedia and more to do with the advancement of technological weaponry.

Your post didn't change a thing I said. I wouldn't humans of the past who were even worse being ignorant of basic science, ambitions of conquest, and even worse religious fanatics with 2023 weaponry at their disposal.

Just going back 4 centuries people were being murdered for "witchcraft."

I cant imagine defending violent media and saying its not one of the reasons why people grow up violent lmao.

there are always different reasons for violence. Back then, the reasons were simple. Society wasnt civilized. There werent laws in place. There werent governments strong enough to even have laws.

youre comparing apples to oranges and burying your head in the sand at the cause which is sitting right in front of you.

Look at whats popular in media. Anything with violence. Its what sells, because its what people want to consume. The media knows that. The news networks absolutely know that.

Humans are obsessed with violence, and media taps into that obsession to make more and more people obsessed globally.

There definitely were laws and governments in place long before electronic media and those very civilized cultures loved violence. From Roman gladiators to the inquisition to public executions in 19th century Europe... Humanity has always had a thing for violence.

TC, I really don't get your point in acting like media is the problem.

If you are trying to blame video games, music and tv for violence, that's not a good argument. You do know those things were not around in medieval Europe, Ivan the Terrible, Genghis Khan, the autrocities in the name of religion? We don't even have to look that far back before things like video games and movies were a thing.

Being frank I don't think it is. Humans are just violent creatures. If anything, I'd argue education, lifting people out of poverty, and less greed would contribute to less violence.

With humans being such violent creatures, I'd go even further to argue media provides a much better alternative outlet since we are so violent.

They make complete sense to compare. You just don't like the fact that violence is a big part of human history that existed long before video games, TV and movies even existed.

Humans are just violent animals.

It doesn't. It's not doing anything to actually make violence any better or worse than it always has been throughout history.

If anything, humans are less violent than our ancestors through education.
