I don't think it's true, but from the few samples I have seen, it seems like Velma is pretty much the ultimate "woke" carricature and some people think she is way too stereotypical of a far leftist to be made by someone actually leaning left. I will give the show a chance, but I worry the alt right will use it for their propaganda.

I think the simpler answer is that HBO/Discovery greenlit the show with barely any info outside of "Scooby Doo but Mindy Kaling has something to do with it" and figured it'd be a success off that alone

Funnily enough when I googled this the other day there were a bunch of articles from like a decade ago wondering if Mindy Kaling was conservative because of her jokes and upbringing.

So maybe?

I dont get how this Velma show wasnt canned along with a lot of the other stuff. It doesnt need to exist and seems like a very unhealthy vanity project for Kalling. I mean if this is what she wants to put out then it says a lot more about her at the least.

Mindy Kaling liking a tweet does not make her a terf, and when she wrote that she was conservative it wasnt in the political sense.

her real name is Vera Mindy Chokalingam, but she changed it to Mindy Kailing, just like all those self hating GOP politicians do (Nikki Haley is not Nikki Haley, her name is Nimrata ____, and Bobby Jindal, the guy who literally had a portrait of him painted with white skin in his office is actually named Priyush) , which should tell you how the Modi-loving Mindy feels about herself.

the biggest tell is that her comedy is a one trick pony consisting on inserting herself via an avatar (such as her character in the office or in her mindy project show) into a mostly-white environment and also lusting after the white dude therein.

I don't know if Mindy Kaling is a conservative but she does hold some reactionary views and she sure isn't woke or a progressive. So I don't think it's a conspiracy theory.

As someone who IRL doesn't go by their birth name (but is not trans), yes it's annoying as fuck when people do that but I don't see it as on the same level because it usually just comes from a place of that they can't be bothered relearning what to call you - in other words, it's usually laziness, not hate, and in particular I've never encountered it from someone who's only known me by my current name, even if they've later found out my birth name.

Classical liberalism refers to people that believe that capitalism is the best method of government. In modern terms this is basically just viewed through the lens of the Libertarian party as the traditional way to view liberalism versus conservatism was that liberals recognized that unchecked capitalism would just end up in some level of totalitarianism and thus would end up bunk. For instance, a liberal would say that Libertarians just want to be ruled by some sort of mafia-like entity as they have no actual structure beyond "government bad" and as long as the entity ruling over them isn't literally calling itself "the government" they are 100% on board with extreme authoritarianism. Inverse to this a person calling themselves a classical liberal nowadays would decry such structure as authoritarianism as the entire point is to view everything through the "marketplace of ideas" and having a government would just take away from a person's wallet being the sole defining characteristic of what is good and evil.

American liberalism, on the other hand, isn't so much a political philosophy or ideology so much as it's just every person who thinks that domestic terrorism is bad. This is why you can have the major "liberal" party be mid/far-right, the average voter be centrist, and the boogieman of their opponents being leftist (of any depth) all at the same time.

Social liberalism or the more centrist leaning versions of socialism both come to mind as fitting all of those. As with all things politics there is a lot of nuance when talking about very specific demographics, at least when it comes to talking about leftist positions. The main distinction is just how much you want to regulate the capitalism + how big is the social security net. Under socialism that includes some manner of capitalism the ability to just "make money" is heavily restricted and thus things like the stock market would not exist at all. Inversely under liberalism the safety net would lose some of its teeth due to the inherent distribution of wealth moving upwards, and while regulations preventing larger businesses from taking over would give you some level of "real" capitalism (the concept of what is "real" is a very loaded term, as one can very easily make the argument that "real" capitalism is big businesses buying everything up and not what you are referring to) there would still be an inherent bias towards the people who do happen to be just that bit richer getting preferential treatment.
