Because the idea of masses of people spending considerable amounts of time spamming a turbo speed chat with vague emotes, sometimes paid vague emotes while the streamer occasionally skims the chat and says something in response to whatever seems to be the general consensus is depressing. Some are working on the ol parasocial relationship. Some others are sending their favorite girl streamer three digits at a time in the hope she'll put their name on the obedient drone whiteboard in the back. Many are lethargically settling for anything the same as people who enable autoplay on Youtube and let it ride, kind of like how some people will put something on, half-interestedly glance at it every now and then and then call the habit binge watching.

I don't like that it leaks out of its quarantine sometimes either. I encounter literal bots on TF2 with more to say than some of these Kappa frankerz residentsleeper pogchamp pog poggers people.

And the streamers themselves, this is a personal thing but most seem pretty transparent. A bunch seem to be those people who soullessly refer to all media and forms of entertainment put out as content. Pushing ads on people and proudly talking up their own ability to clickbait are treated like wacky in-jokes. A lot of this so called content boils down to watching the same guy screw up the same speedrun trick again after watching the same unskippable opening, watching a streamer react to a video or waiting for a story to break so they can read article while going "Oh gosh oh wow gee whiz can you guys believe it chat this is funny everyone say kappa in the chat to commemorate how funny I am." which is about as low effort as it gets.
No wait, no it isn't. They have chatting and hot tub sections don't they?

It always comes off as this cynical effort to develop themselves into a brand. Like the personality is meant to override whatever merit or entertainment value the streamer's current activity most of the time. People turn up to meet the E-celeb, or like any shared interest that has seen better days, they turn up because they see the big view count and assume it's the place to be.
Even if it's a small stream, both streamer and viewer know the streamer is forced to engage with you while their channel is small because that's a necessary first step before the amorphous mass of people screaming into the void can take form. Before they can live the dream of being a sentient avenue through which whatever's doing big numbers and whatever their sponsors throw in can be delivered to the bored and lonely.

Sometimes you could kind of argue in favor of it, saying it's a way to vicariously relive things you like through someone else's first time playing or their sheer skill level. I'm all for getting mileage out of things but this is strictly a hands off way of reliving it. It might be nice if modern games - more cinematics than gameplay, one-and-done, you know the drill - didn't have streamers propping them up by lending their name value to them because maybe then opinions on games would be more about the quality or longevity of the video game itself than how effectively they've seen the jumpscares work or how wild the chat went.

Obligatory mention of those people who pay to insult the streamer then walk away thinking they've gotten one over on the streamer. Kinda funny but mostly depressing.

Thats just cross pollinating content online, YouTubers have no problem with Twitch streamers reacting to their videos and via versa. Hasans best friend is a big YouTuber

I follow one person on Twitch, an Australian OSRS streamer from Perth. Literally the only person I watch on Twitch.

When I was more into Vinesauce I'd just watch the VODs, and I watch Snapcube VODs as well. ViewtifulJoe is right in the sense of like spending all your time in a turbo chat spamming emojis, who actually enjoys that? If I'm looking for enjoyable, popular stream content, I'm watching VODs. If I'm fucking around and want to watch gameplay, I watch the one streamer whose stream I like and whose whole atmosphere is chill, lazy and fun.
