I'm playing Showcase mode in WWE 2k22 and like the first three matches of it are basically just about Eddie Guerrero even though it's supposed to be about Rey Mysterio lol

Brought back a lot of memories though. His death really caught everyone off guard and broke a lot of hearts. Not only was he consistently popular but he seemed to be really adored backstage by the other guys too. Although I don't think I knew much about what things were like backstage back then.

I know for me it felt like the moment where my view on wrestling lost a little bit of innocence and that certainly ended up being more evident as time went on. In retrospect I guess it was the beginning of the end for me. I think it was only a couple of years later I basically stopped watching.

He's honestly the first thing that comes to mind when I think of wrestlers who are "beloved".

I have no idea how he was as a person but as a performer he was amazing, he was always one of my favorites to see out there even when he was being a heel

Yeah he's pretty much universally beloved by wrestling fans.

If you're not cheating you're not trying.

My impression was that he was one of those performers who also tried hard to make his opponent look good. It was those guys who tended to be really well liked and respected. It's what overall leads to those classic matches where both give their all.

Hell the entire first match in WWE 2K22 is basically Rey Mysterio saying "This match with Eddie was what really put me over and established the rest of my career"

That says a lot about Eddie I think.

In terms of wrestling, he had it all. The look(despite being on the shorter side), the charisma, the mic skills, and good ring work.

Despite Vince's love for the bigger guys, his likeablity amongst fans couldn't be denied and helped push him to the main stage.

He was also pretty damn good during his WCW days.

It takes a lot of character to be able to make both you and your opponent look so good that it doesn't matter who wins in the end since everybody just enjoyed the match anyway. I can see why he was well liked if he did that, You can't get called a Jobber or a sue for winning or losing against Eddie.

I actually met Eddie Guerrero. He was once my subtitute teacher when I was in 6th grade.

My actual teacher ( i cant remember the name), had told us that he will be absent the next day and his nephew was going to teach the class.

The next day, when he was in class I could hear my other classmates whispering, "es un luchardor!" This means "he's a wrestler" in english. I was confused what they meant.

During class, he was very smart and taught us about gravity and how planes fly. The subject came about because we were pacticing some mathematical equations.

Students were still whispering about him after class and afterschool. I was still confused. I never watched American wrestling, until the weekend of that same week and I was browsing through the TV channels, and I saw him on TV wresting. Thats when I understood what everyone in my class were whispering about.

I got hooked into American wrestling after that.

By the way, every year in GameFaqs, someone always brings up Eddie Guerrero. I always tell this same story.

Wow that's crazy.

I'm just gonna imagine he taught gravity by showing off a frog splash.

Man I loved Tajiri. I just watched ECW One Night Stand the other day again and he was one of my favorite parts of that show. Cool theme too.

The thing I loved about the dude was that he never half assed a match. Every time he went out there he left it all on the mat.
