The problem isnt the rules. The problem is the people. Like I said, it because it offends one person. Ive made topic talking about sexual things before, and its fine. I could make the same topic a year later, and now its offensive. Nothing about the topic changed, and no rules were actually broken. But now, someone feels offending by it, when it wasnt an offensive topic Thats the problem Or how a word is fine, but the next week, its offensive. Even if it doesnt mean something offensive

And I disagree with how they mod on this site Ive seen some that make sense. And Ive seen others that are ridiculous

They have a sex board. So, its appropriate for the site in general, normally. Not to mention, if it wasnt appropriate for the site, why was it allowed on the boards the first time. And it still is, in some cases The other problem with mods is no consistency Its all over the place because the mods see things differently, as well

I 100% disagree with this. Thats pretty ridiculous, tbh Ive never heard that opinion, tbh The internet is a great place to talk about it Its not always the best place to get advice about it (though it can be in some cases) But just to talk about it, its great

How this devolved from the fact that the (arguably) best "new" doctor is coming back to an argument about what is meant by the first doctor, I just don't know. Who freaking cares.

At this point if you even know about the show at all, celebrate being at least a semi-nerd and chatting with fellow people online. There are so many shows, and so many other things to keep yourself entertained it's a miracle when you find others who are into the same show at this point.

Personally I would probably not have gone back to watch anymore episodes unless they did something like this. I didn't like the 13th doctor, the 12th doctor, the 11th doctor tbh. Tenant and his predecessor where both good, but it went downhill from there for me, and even though I tried to like the last doctor, I just didn't.

Bringing him back is risky, but it might draw people in, at least long enough to give whoever they replace him with eventually an actual chance. I think the obvious solution is to replace tenant eventually with Simon Pegg.

The absolute # of shows that are released at any period of time now adays is so much more than there used to be, and I watch less shows now then I did as well. That means you are missing more shows now then you did back then.

Almost every month you have as many tv shows/movies/specials etc air as you used to a decade ago in a whole year. There are so many other choices for sci fi now than doctor who (compared to when the original series aired for instance). In addition you have access to ALL the other shows that were released in the past at this point as well.

It's a freaking miracle when you watch the same show as others at this point, at least at the same time.

You kind of are, though you may not watch a lot of shows. But most people I know have discussed multiple shows with each other this year. And thats just the shows that they all watched. They also watch a lot of shows that not everybody watches. You mentioned watching only 3 tv shows this year, which is pretty low compared to most people I know or talk about. Or even see online Idk everybody, of course. But chances are most people watch more than 3 shows per year

Of the list you put, Velma and The Last of Us are ones I want to watch. I also have a mild interest in Thats 90s show But still unsure about it.

For returning shows, definitely Vox Machina (I might see the first 3 episodes in theaters)

Holy shit, that site rocks. That is way better than looking it up per streaming service (netflix etc).

It doesn't show everything I don't think though. like what is on paramount + (1923) etc......but still that does have the new netflix at least (not sure on HBO max/Amazon prime etc). I bookmarked it an will use it in the future.

Also, sweet that Night Court is coming back. Don't know if it'll be as good, but I'll give it a try. Few others on there that looked decent as well, but I already have too many things I'm not keeping up with etc, which is part of the problem. I have not seen so many shows i'm interested in. Never got far into the last Witcher season and they just released a prequel, never got far into the last umbrella academy, they have a new season of emola holmes and warrior nun I have not even touched. I'm still only halfway through Wednesday (and enjoying it) and there are like 5 other shows on netflix I have on my backlog (ones I really wanna watch not just random ones to try).

And that is JUST netflix, I have a new season of Harley Quinn on HBO, 2 seaons of Teen Titans, all of the new game of thrones (other than the first episode) and a ton more on there to watch as well.

Then you have disney/hulu/amazon, it's just rediculous. The backlog gets longer and longer, while I watch like 5-7 hours of tv a week. Every freaking month more and more shows I'd like to watch get added to my backlog. Right now, if you sat me down and forced me to watch all the shows I have on my list that just released in the last 2 years, I would probably be watching tv nonstop for all of 2023 (as long as I ate/slept and only watched shows 10 hours a day at least).

Even the most popular shows ever made today are incredibly lucky if they manage 10 million viewers. The most successful ones top out around 15 million at most.

There are a LOT more than 10-15 million people in the world.

Generally speaking, even the most popular shows have vastly more people who have never and will never see them than people who have.

Don't let the illusion of the vocal minority on the Internet fool you - it's more likely to seem like everyone is watching the same things if you mostly stick to niche social circles, or just judge from reactions on Twitter or the like. But it's not really true.

The entire concept of shared pop culture is slowly dying, and is likely to fade even more in the future. Multiple streaming services and alternative media distribution channels almost guarantee people will have fewer and fewer entertainment experiences in common over time.

Which is going to have an interesting result when it comes to the monetization of nostalgia.

Talking about anything sexual in general is not appropriate for the internet in general.

A case could be made that it's one of the few things that are actually appropriate for the Internet at all.

In the early years of the Internet, there were studies done that implied about 80% of Internet usage was for porn. That's almost certainly changed in the social media era, but porn is still a huge aspect of the Internet's core purpose.

Personally, I'd argue that political discussions aren't appropriate long before I'd argue that sex isn't. Because at least talking about sex doesn't have huge negative real world repercussions.

The desensitization of the past couple of generational cohorts to porn because of the internet is absolutely important. Sex has changed completely because of how we perceive it. My comments are mainly geared towards the fact I have a feeling he was moderated for saying that he was doing / supporting things that are not culturally acceptable. Kinda like a taboo subject to talk about in a community like this.

But you're not talking to everyone you meet, you're still talking to a niche self-selected sample of people who you've chosen to associate with.

I guarantee you can name a show that you think everyone you know has seen, and I can probably counter that no one I know has seen it. Because we likely have two radically different cohorts.

You can probably find some people interested in sports. But with sports, I do know many that only watch certain teams, which could make it hard Most jobs Ive worked at has people talking about the popular shows, though Im not sure if Ive ever had a job where that wasnt a discussion on certain days Ive heard plenty of sports talk, though, too

Id agree if it were just friends and family. But its not. Its pretty much everyone around me. For example, at work, its usually everyone in there. And trust me when I say they are all usually into different things But because its popular, they all seem to watch it I even did for a few shows

And. Not even in just the same room. People from other areas come over for certain things, and add themselves into the conversation And at the gym, the store, the dining facility, etc Again, its not everyone in the world. But it sure feels like it when you cant go two steps without hearing people talking about it

The internet also buzzes with it, but that can usually be based on what sites I go on
