It's not a great movie, but worth watching for Pierce Brosnan's character.

I liked it well enough, but Pierce Brosnan carries it mostly. If you're into comics, yeah. If you're not that into them, you can pass.

It's probably The Rock at his most boring ever which is crazy because how do you not let him show his personality?

Seeing people list Pierce Brosnan being the biggest positive of a piece of media post-Bond is surreal to me and actually makes me want to watch it

I agree that Pierce was the best part of that movie. Knowing nothing about the character, he just reminded me so much of Dr. Strange, though I dont know which came first.

Doctor Fate is way older than Dr. Strange.

Good to know. As someone much more attuned to Marvel, DC is a lot of blind spots outside the major breakthrough characters.

I'll also give shoutouts to Aldis Hodge who played Hawkman.

Hawkman is usually meh, but Aldis brought a lot of life to the character. Really enjoyed him in this film too.

Was just about to comment this. Very excited to see Aldis Hodge playing any superhero.

I thought The Rock showed a ton of charisma in Black Adam. The humor in the movie was best I've seen in a super hero film since like Thor Ragnarok. Not sure where the talk about him not having personality in that movie is from. Him Hawkman and Dr Fate are real standouts. Just good chemistry in their interactions.

Worth watching.

Was gonna say that I liked the Black Adam character's humor and that it actually reminded me of GotG1 Drax (back then when he was funny).

I thought the humor in Black Adam was "fine" but I would say there was a non-significant amount of it that didn't land with me at all.

I also think The Rock could have shown more personality, even with this character. It's just weird having him be the emotionless, stoic weirdo with deadpan unintentional comedy the whole time. Like if I'm watching a Black Adam movie, I kinda want more of the personality from the guy.

To be clear I was entirely talking about the Black Adam character humor

Atom Smasher wasn't offensive for me but was by no means a selling point.

It's not a good movie. The Rock was very bland. Virtually no charisma. Stupid/bad misdirect that doesn't work and leads to a "reveal" anyone would see a hundred miles away.

The movie is constantly telling not showing, especially with Hawkman's garbage dialogue. Also if I hear the phrase "I'm not a hero" one more time in any movie I will probably just walk out after this.

The "natives" really don't make it clear enough that the Justice Society, in trying to stop Adam, are propping up a regime that is clearly a Taliban analogue. This is the part of the movie I hate the most. They could have really given the movie some great dramatic tension with this aspect, and they basically throw it away because "we can't really make American superheroes look out of touch and doing more harm than good."

The main villain was basically stupid, tacked on at the last minute nonsense. I'll say no more to avoid spoilers.

Pierce Brosnan was alright, but his role in the movie is nowhere near big enough to save it. Also there were two other super heroes and I'm not going to pretend I don't remember their names, but I don't remember them contributing anything to the story other than "hi, I'm here too!"

Yeah, so my biggest positive is Pierce Brosnan was alright in his small, second tier role.

Saw it. Just isn't a good movie. Way too many bland exposition dumps that feel downright insulting to the audience. Characters that supposedly have relationships prior to the film are lacking in believable chemistry, and having someone as charismatic as The Rock being this dour, bland, monotone character just feels like a waste.

It's not the worst superhero movie I've watched but it's just horribly uninspired with a weak script and weaker performances.

What confused me is that I'm pretty sure it was given away in the trailer

So not revealing that until the 3rd act, I think, was bizarre
