Board 8 > Printer just died. Recommend a good replacement

My HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 lasted me 9 years until its printerhead got an error today.

Anyone want to recommend a reliable, affordable (under $200) printer? I strictly use my printer for text documents, eBay labels, coupons, and other basic stuff.

Also, I've heard Canon ink is cheaper than HP, so I'm thinking about switching to Canon.

Canon doesn't have an "instant ink" program or refillable cartridges, though it sounds like you're not utilizing those.

He said "eBay labels" and "coupons" which means he utilizes a printer enough to warrant having one at his home.

Also, doing quick research on Canon for ya, looking like an MG3620 or a TR8620a are the best-reviewed on sites, depending on whether the extra features of the latter are worth another $90 to you. Keep in mind I just sped through a little research and have no experience with those my parents gave mine to me when they moved.

Thanks again. It's tricky shopping for printers because most reviewers seem to either love or HATE the printer in question.

I'd suggest avoiding buying a printer unless you have to. Not many people use it enough to justify it. So much can be digitally transmitted now.

Avoid HP at all costs, they have DRM in their ink cartridges now.

Had good luck with Brother.

Brother is also my recommendation. They have a number of affordable options so you can find one that fits your needs.

I have had a Brother printer for about 6 years now and it works great. DCP-L2540DW. I got it mostly for the scanner/photocopier but the b/w printer has rarely given me trouble.

I like the instant convenience of a printer but I've just been using FedEx's service where you just send the document and print it when you get to the shop. Super easy and convenient.

I will also say when I had a Canon printer a couple years ago the ink dried out pretty fast. If you don't print regularly you will waste a lot.

Will look into Brother. The DCP-L2540DW is way too expensive now, but I'll check newer models.
